Hello all, I am curious to see what the current pay rate is across the country so we can better prepare ourselves and negotiate better salaries! Please try to keep this poll to any graduates after 2010. Thanks!
1) State
2) Hourly Salary
3) Experience, if any
4) Specialty, if any
Here's mine:
NJ
$26/hr new grad, no exp., recently changed jobs $33/hr 1 yr exp.
Only 1 year old RN
Nephrology/dialysis
This was a good read. The title caught my eye first, then I got depressed reading all the $20.xx rates! ouch! I will have to pay almost $400/month loan repayment when done. I make $20/hr as a waitress right now. It was my 'easy' job while my kids were 'little' and in elementary school. Now it's 'my' time to get a career. I was expecting $30's? Is all this with benefits though? per diem is no benefits but higher rate? Are you all getting pensions? (I WANT a pension!)

Hi Tracy,
Yes, my position is FT w/ bennies, but they aren't stellar, and there's no pension, just a 401k to which they contribute 2%. I make the lion's share of my paycheck when I pick up SOS shifts, which are as much as time and a half with hourly incentive pay. That, and I make a decent rate by remaining weekend only. That comes with a differential.

Pensions are rare now days. My system doesn't offer a hirer rate for no benefits. We have a good match for our 401K and some tuition reimbursement
you our have to remember there is no nursing shortage, especially for new grads.

So, what are benefits exactly? Do YOU pay medical? and what? no pension, sigh, I know they are far and few. SOS shifts? night/weekend/on call? Thanks!

Pensions are so very rare. You likely won't find one unless you work for the government/education. Most employers offer 401k, but some don't even contribute to them for you. The hospital I worked for didn't. I work as a school nurse now and I have a pension, I'm covered under the teachers union and get their benefits. I do pay $300/ month for my family health insurance and it is good insurance.

I've heard the nursing market in SFlorida is in a serious glut because they turn out so many nurses every year. But honestly, in general $20/hr for a new grad in anything is nothing to balk at. With the exception of a few careers most bachelor level entry careers fall into the $15/hour range. If moving is an option you should consider it. The cost of living in SFlorida is ridiculous (I lived there for almost 10 years). Some hospitals in La are paying around $28/hr base for new grads.

Per diems gave no benefits and, locally, are paying $45/hour. (Usually require exp too)
As far as benefits you will pay a percentage of your premium the rate will vary. But you can expect about 15% (maybe)of yiur paycheck to be taken in taxes/benes. I know florida doesn't have income tax so if I remember correctly I was bringing home about $3000 a month when I was earning $20.19/hr at a research company in SFlorida.
