Nurses General Nursing

Hi Everyone,

I am a new grad and work full time. Does anyone have any advice on what they do on their days off? I am single and don't have any obligations. Any advice would be appreciated?

Absolutely nobody was rude to you or refusing to help you. Your original post was baffling. Go back and re-read it and honestly answer if based on the original post YOU would know the information you posted later. Communication is key and in this case yours was not effective.

For future reference, if you seek specific information, post a specific question. "What should I do on my day off?" is not very specific, is it?

Maybe I didn’t make myself clear when I asked this question.

You certainly didn't.

Check out stand alone endoscopy centers in your area. They often look for PRN nurses.

A lot of the single or married without kids nurses in my department work overtime every week and plan fun vacations with the overtime money. Some others work extra to pay off loans.

When younger and with more energy, used to go rollerskating after work ,ladies session,I also had a partime position in center.

Learn a new hobby or study for certification, good luck.

Wow. You're right, that was not made clear at all in your original post.

Even with your clarification, I'm gonna go out on a limb and argue that being a new grad is stressful and you're still probably adapting to the RN role. Bearing that in mind, I honestly think the answer of "do whatever you want!" still stands. Enjoy your days off, give yourself time to rest and reflect, and use that time to review concepts that you're encountering with fresh eyes as a new nurse. I know as a new grad I would have struggled with a second job at first.

If you are truly confident in your ability to balance two jobs, you could get something per diem at another hospital, or just pick up OT where you are currently. Psych and LTC probably offer eight hour shifts and may have per diem work. I knew one nurse who worked at a methadone clinic on her off days. Possibly substitute school nurse? Really, there are a lot of options, depending on your interests. So it still begs the question, what do *you* want to do?

Computer games. Definitely, try World of Warcraft, or league of legends.

Cheers

After reading your follow up post avoid League of Legends it can be very toxic and they will eat snowflakes like you. ?

I volunteer with an animal rescue group. I also went back to school for my master’s. this is an expensive way to “pass the time” though. ?

If you like learning, look into studying for the specialization you work in—example, CCRN, CEN.

Eveyone on here, I did not ask anyone how to fill my life nor am I sick of my friends. I was only asking if someone had any interesting idea.

I was under the impression that this forum is all about helping eachother, not embarrass anyone for asking for suggestions.

You were the one who got on an internet forum and complained of not knowing what to do on your days off. I spent my entire career wishing I had more time for family, friends and hobbies.

You asked for suggestions and got several. How was that embarrassing? You didn't say anything about a second job. Do you need the money? That's a different issue from being bored. Just what exactly are you asking of everyone?

Pick up more shifts until you figure it out.

You are used to being in nursing school M-Fri and now you're working 12 hour shifts. It's a change, and it takes time.

As a new grad, it is not recommended to take on a 2nd job. Relax on your days off and cultivate work-life balance. If you do that now, it will benefit you your entire career. ? Best wishes
