Personnal lives or reckless?

Nurses General Nursing

i have a question as nurses when should it be a "you should know better because your a medical professional" or if it is just living out lives?

see i often wonder if my hobby is one of recklessness or not. i ride horses, but not only ride its kind of a passion. i compete (or did last summer) and i do quite a bit of training. so here is the reckless part, i take 1500 pound animals to 4ft fences at quite an alarming pace (its faster than it looks). and if the horses get scared or just doesn't agree with my plans i can end up kissing the dirt or worse the fence or the horse's feet. i also start from scratch on several horses each summer, being the first one on a horse is an incredible feeling, and being with them as they start to understand that riding can be a fun and exiting.

i feel on top of the world when i'm riding and at the barn, i would never give up that feeling for anything. i know it is a dangerous hobby, and i have my riding injury list (a few to many broken bones, and 3 concussions) but to me it is worth it.

what hobbies do other nurses have that maybe could also be considered reckless or fall into the category or "you should know better"? i'm just trying to learn more about the people whose profession i will soon be joining.

thanx sr

i reread and edited and some of the spelling and grammer, but i'm sure it's still not perfect:p

One should never start a sentence with the word "but" either. Looks like Wannabe may want to check into those refresher courses also.

wannabe- i know my spelling and grammer suck, i never pretendent that i was good at either. It is one of my weekness and it is something that I just have to work through. Spellcheck and a good proof reader are all it takes to be able to hand in a stellar essay. My math and logical skills make up for what I lack in spelling.

I have already been accepted to nursing school, the 4 year BScN program. I'm happy for you for going back to school, but please don't pi$$ me because i'm doing it right out of highschool. thanx SR

I just though this would be a fun topic to get to know each other.

Oh Please!

I believe spelling and grammar are important in nursing or any other job for that matter, however...This is a message board on the internet for God's sake. Sure we answer each others important questions once in awhile, but for the biggest part it's just a bunch of nurses and others hangin around shootin the shi-.

And another thing... How terribly rude of you. I have made some posts here that really ticked off bunches of people but I have never (least not intentionally) insulted an individual! That's just inexcusable!

I am a webmaster and teach classes for such as a hobby.

Just possibly an observation: anyone think that as nurses we seek out thrilling activities outside of work to mimic the rush of work? I know when I worked a very busy ortho floor I would try to pack in as much on my off days as I could so my day "flew" by....mimicing my work day? Crazy, huh? :coollook:

And, oh! by the way.....Wannabe "you have been found ridiculous :rotfl: " Tisk Tisk for being so Witchy!

I'm just kind of giggling at the fact that one poster got in such an uproar about spelling. Seriously, it just happened on another thread today and I don't understand what in the world the big deal is? Man!

As for dangerous hobbies...well, there is chasing after balls in the street so that my kids don't run after them. LOL! I really have a very simple, boring life right now (that is, until school starts!) I have read of some skydivers on here though. Actually, quite a few of them here.

I'm not a nurse (I'm a CNA). I used to have horses years ago but can't afford them right now.

Were I able to, you bet I'd have them now!

Girlfriend, you keep on riding and jumping and make sure you continue to earn an income that will let you enjoy your hobby on your time off. I know horses are not cheap.

The most wonderful high in the world is riding atop a galloping horse!

I used to ride horses with a couple of friends when I was in grade school and high school, but now the closest I get to horses is seeing them in parades. I would love to own/ride horses! Still Riding-you keep on riding and have a blast; I will envy you from cyberspace!

And good luck in your endeaver to become a nurse. Smart move to do it right out of high school; wish I had been that decisive at that age instead of getting married to get out of the house.

As for spelling, it's not everything. You will learn how to write good narratives in nursing school because you will be writing lots and lots of seemingly meaningless papers. :uhoh3: As you said there is always spell check and the good old dictionary.

My son rides horses. He doesn't jump, though! Thank God, because I don't think I could watch my baby do that! :chuckle But (sorry, bad grammar), I let him do it because there are just some things in life that are going to be risky. He loves what he does, and I believe the riding is a very important thing to him. I hope and pray that he is never seriously injured, but I won't make him stop riding for a "what if." :) Keep on riding! Yeehaw!

Just be sure and wear a REALLY GOOD helmet, ok?

'And thus as I rode,

My heart pounded in time

with the grey that strode,

With lawn-muted stride,

with snorting and chinking

And one great happiness lightened my heart,

and, I knew, if in falling, this life I'd depart,

To heaven I'd be sinking!

As one who has ridden a great deal in the past (and has the scars to show for it!) I can well understand the previous posts. I would love to go back to it, but I found I don't bounce as well as I did when I was younger, and injuries take longer to heal. [sigh.] Maybe some day....

P.S.: If anyone can figure out how to do umlauts on this chat board, please let me know! :)

Good luck with school, and be careful riding and like prmenrn said make sure you have a good helmet. I wish I would have started school so much younger [sigh] but now I feel that I want it so bad that nothing will stop me cause I am running out of time.

As for the errors when I am in school my brain is so full and tired that even the simplest words just can't be spelled correctly and grammer forget it this place is my down time so as long as you can read it I don't care, so please come here and relax and sorry that you have been bashed but do you feel the love that has been extended

hahaha
