Personnal lives or reckless?

Don't know if this would be considered a hobby, but I LOVE scary rides at amusement parks. Especially fast Roller Coasters! Other than that, taking care of three kids can put me in some pretty dangerous situations!:rotfl:

as far as hobbies go, i say "to each his own."
but, as far as you joining the profession, i suggest you take a refresher course in grammar and spelling before you apply to nursing school. didn't you just graduate from high school? how can your grammar be that bad when you just got out of school? just how many concussions have you had?
i'm sorry to be so mean, but i am applying to nursing school late in life and i am very nervous about getting into school. it makes me sick to know that people who can't even speak or write their own language could be accepted.

This board may not be the place to critique one's grammar, but let's not underestimate and undervalue the importance of good grammar. Spellcheck and calculators have made laziness acceptable in the classroom (I stand by my mother's famous words: "Look it up in the dictionary")

Wannabe.. you need to chill. I'm an "older" student too, so what? That doesnt give you the right to be rude.

To the OP, I ride motorcycles, skydive, and sometimes I drink too much.

I think your hobby is great, I also think life is for the living, have fun, enjoy yourself on your off-time b/c unfortunatly when your day is over you have to go back to work with people that wear their underwear wayyyyy too tight.

hi sr. i also used to show horses, jumping and dressage, for many years. i had to sell my horse when my husband and i were expecting our first child, 5 years ago, very sad. but, i know how much enjoyment you get out of riding, training, and just being around horses. they have their own personalities. i think it's great that you are involved with horses. yes, it is dangerous, but so are a lot of other things that nurses and doctors do. it's really no one's business what you do in your spare time, as long as it doesn't effect your work. i know a doctor who owns his own plane and flies it as much as he can. that's a little dangerous, but fun, so just keep on enjoying your horses. and about the rude comment from another member, don't worry. if you're truely meant to be a nurse you'll make it through. it takes more than good spelling and grammar to be a great nurse. i know a lot of doctors who can't spell that great, or whose handwriting is just horrible, and they're doctors. i don't know why people have to be so mean, we're not all like that. good luck with your carrer, and your horses, i know i really miss mine.

see i often wonder if my hobby is one of recklessness or not. i ride horses, but not only ride its kind of a passion. i compete (or did last summer) and i do quite a bit of training. so here is the reckless part, i take 1500 pound animals to 4ft fences at quite an alarming pace (its faster than it looks). and if the horses get scared or just doesn't agree with my plans i can end up kissing the dirt or worse the fence or the horse's feet. i also start from scratch on several horses each summer, being the first one on a horse is an incredible feeling, and being with them as they start to understand that riding can be a fun and exiting.

i feel on top of the world when i'm riding and at the barn, i would never give up that feeling for anything. i know it is a dangerous hobby, and i have my riding injury list (a few to many broken bones, and 3 concussions) but to me it is worth it.

what hobbies do other nurses have that maybe could also be considered reckless or fall into the category or "you should know better"? i'm just trying to learn more about the people whose profession i will soon be joining.

i don't have any dangerous hobbis but i love horses and your hobby sure sounds like fun. i don't think it has to be considered reckless even though it can be dangerous as you pointed out with your broken bones :chuckle
i think it's great you are 19 and starting nursing school. i graduated from high school at 17 and had my asdn at 19 and was working as a graduate nurse before i ever turned 20. remember good spelling skills don't necessarily equate with intelligence good luck with your career choices and with your horses sweetie

Spelling is important, but I for one blame nursing for destroying my perfect grammer. You are taught to write in fragments. You give report in fragments. If you are a research nurse and writing papers, then it is an entire different ballgame.

As far as daring sports NO. I don't like the feeling. Especially if I feel out of control. Even crazy days I have a clue what I'm doing. My husband likes all that scuba diving, motorcycles, hanggliding, jumping out of perfectly good planes, but I get the shakes thinking about it.

I LOVE MY HORSES!!!!

Yes I've had several accidents - fx left tibia, numerous concussions, many bumps and bruises...but I wouldn't give my horses up for anything!!! I grew up on horseback and my kids will too. Have rehabilitated 2 abused horses (nothing like the sight of a 1200 pound animal cowering in a corner to break a girls heart) as of yet and have started/greenbroke several horses. I can't get enough of it :)

I have to say to wannabe: Grow up- what does spelling on a post have to do with being a nurse? It doesn't make you good or bad. Hell, she has do be doing something correct to be entering nursin at young age. What is your excuse? like the others said in so many words- chill the F!&% out!!

To the silly guys that posted the stuff about Cambridge- you are right- I read it without any problems- so who gives a flying flip of a f!&% ?!? Thanks, wannabe needed that!!

To the chica with the horse hobby- do you- I wish I had a hobby- or does shopping and watching UPN on Monday's and Tuesday's count- OhH don't forget American Idol!!!!
