I guess I've been pretty fortunate in this aspect...I have only had fairly good experiences with most co-workers. Now there have been a few, but I didn't attest it to the fact they were an RN, more to the fact that that was their personality defeict! :rotfl: I love being a nurse and I still feel a sense of pride when I write LPN after my name! :) My best co-work was my preceptor, a 18yr veteran RN who took me under her wing and helped me to succeed at my job, and as such a memory I still try to "pay it forward" and help anyone I can. You'all have a gentle night...
  2. I'm set to go to Camp Lohikan in Lake Como, PA. I'm getting the feeling that I may have gotten the short end....I'm not really getting paid much but they are giving up my daughter's tuition. This is my first summer, I'm not really nervous just unsettled a bit. I guess I don't really want to be away from my home for 5 weeks...but it was the best opportunity for my youngest to go to camp.
  3. Just possibly an observation: anyone think that as nurses we seek out thrilling activities outside of work to mimic the rush of work? I know when I worked a very busy ortho floor I would try to pack in as much on my off days as I could so my day "flew" by....mimicing my work day? Crazy, huh? And, oh! by the way.....Wannabe "you have been found ridiculous :rotfl: " Tisk Tisk for being so Witchy!
  4. My best advice: learn to say "no". Explain to the ones who comprehend that you're really busy...and that they need to help YOU. Too often we Mom's put ourselves last. I had to learn that when I went thru school. My three girls were ages 8, 11 & 14 and hubby was deployed overseas. Usually I was the taximom, maidmom, chefmom, entertainmemom ect. ...I sat them all down, stated the facts and stuck to it. I made up a schedule, everyone pitched in. My 8 y/0 learned to load the dishwasher, take out the trash, start a load of laundry, make her own bed ect...and the two older two really took on alot more responsibilities. For their activities, practices, games ect...I begged & borrowed for rides. I just explained that I was in nursing school and needed help. Helping is one of the foremost characteristics of human nature. Usually once you ask, people are more than willing to help. Once I finished school I returned the favors! Don't be afraid to ask, let your honey know you are fed up and need help, NOW. Best of luck!
  5. Wow...I just accepted a position there this summer! I've sent you an email so please contact me if you've accepted a position there. Jill
  6. I currently work as a per diem Home Health nurse. No enemas here! I am basically my own boss, work my own hours and make great pay! And a lot less paperwork as a LPN vice RN working home health! It's all in the job you take! Good Luck!
  7. Just a quick question....I've been doing HH per diem for a year now and am searching for a new bag to carry around my supplies. I've been browsing the websites and internet and was just hoping to get some input. Currently I use a backpack but I want a new one. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  8. I have had such a good laugh with this thread!:roll My only gag reflex so far has been as a student at the good ole nursing home: Answered a call bell, little old lady laying in her own feces askes me to hand her a "glove", I'm thinking so maybe she can scratch herself and not get her hand dirty......so I hand her a glove and turn to start gathering up her dirty linens......in the mean time she reaches up inside her rectum and disimpacts herself! Now she has this slimy poop ball (size of a softball) in her hand and she flings it at me!!!!!!! My duck and cover skills were lacking that day. Needless to say I started retching, and since she had pancakes w/syrup on her dinner tray I to this day can't deal w/the smell of syrup! UCKKK!!!!!!!!!
  9. I'm 37 years old and just started my LPN class after being a dental assistant for 3 years. In answer to the previous post TONI: My reason for first starting as an LPN is simple. I'm hoping that I will gain employment where they have tuition reimbursement and/or a bridge program to achieve my RN license. With the shortage why not have ADMIN pay for my education. I don't care to burden my family with any additional student loans (pre-college teenages in this home!). Also I feel as that I am older I would prefer to "get out there and start working". Just my thoughts! ------------------ I'm the MOM not the MAID!
  10. Congrats! Very impressive!! ------------------ I'm the MOM not the MAID!
