Percent of men in class?

I'm still think of getting into the nursing but is still worried that I might be the only guy taking this course. I feel that I will be the only guy out of 50 in my class. When you were in nursing class, how many guys were in there?

Out of a class of 30-60 (it varied quarter to quarter, I just graduated a short bit ago), but I'd have to say it was 10-20% guys. Being the only guy isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're single. ;)

When I started the LPN portion of my schooling there were 6/26 that were males.

At our RN graduation I was one of only two males that finished with a total of 17 of the original 26 to finish--related to gender, I have no idea. (Just glad I was one of the two that finished)

18% (if my math is right) 6 men in a class of 33 total in my ADN program.

Hi:

We started out with 36 people in our class. Of those 5 were male. We lost one during the first semester due to poor grades. There are four of us left going into our senior year.

It has been my experience that there is not as much a stereotypical bias toward males in nursing as there was 25 years ago. When I was a corpsman back then, I think men were looked upon differently when they wanted to go into nursing. Today, we are everywhere and doing a fantastic job. I work in an inner city ED and male nurses and techs make up a good third of the staff, if not more.

I can't think of anything that I would rather do. Good luck to you.

I start on Sep.7 and I am told that 3 out of 20 studends are male, 15% I will not be alone

I can't give you a percent because I've not yet started, but I work on a med-surg floor as a unit assistant and we have quite a few that are either nurses or in the process of going to nursing school. I think it is great!

When I was a student I had a patient in his 80's who was studying Calculus to keep himself busy. He asked me how many guys were in the class I told him 2 and 24 women. He looked at me and said, "One guy for every twelve women, you've gotta like those odds, maybe I'll give up on Calculus and go into nursing...."

I just started my first term, first eyar today, the program focuses on small calsses, 900 in nursing total for 2 years (transfer program) in once class 2/13 ppl, adn in other calsses, 6/30 ish

Let's see...my class started with 143, 14 were males. 73 graduated, 2 were males. That was a long time ago. I was only the 11 or 12th male to graduate from a then 105 year old school. Instructors were rough but my female peers were great and supported me a lot. We did 13 week rotations then, my least favorite- L&D,obgyn. Most favorite- CCU,ED,OR. I was well received there and not s___ on as much as in other rotations. But I learned so much, mainly patience and that good friends are to be treasured forever. Don't worry, be happy, and be yourself.
