I'm still think of getting into the nursing but is still worried that I might be the only guy taking this course. I feel that I will be the only guy out of 50 in my class. When you were in nursing class, how many guys were in there?

To be honest, I cannot give you an exact figure, as I am finishing my prereqs right now, with nursing to start in fall 2006. I can tell you this much though, we are all over the campus! All the guys in my Bio, Micro, and A&P were all pre nursing. My advisor tells me male nursing students currently outnumber the females!!!
Hey, that sounds awesome. I am sure you will have a great group of guys to study and practice with. Enjoy. Learn a great deal and thrive as an RN.

I was one of two men in my Nursing class. Never bothered me. Drove my wife a little crazy at times though. We would come home to phone messages from "Suzanne" or "Lisa" wanting to know when I could get together with them for a study group.
I studied a lot by myself..........................

In our CNA class of 18, there were 4 guys...one married w/kids, one 40 and single, one in his 20's and single and one barely 18. While doing my clinicals, I met a guy in his mid 50's who was waiting to get into the nursing program. I'd love to be his study partner (serious and competent student!!). I worked in the lab doing bed baths with two of these guys and they were great.
I think there ought to be more guys in this profession. Since there's such a variety of people we deal with, it would be great to have more men working along side of us women. Sometimes patients relate better to a male and then sometimes better to a female...

3.333% of my class was male. Or 2 out of 60. The other guy was very distant and didn't want to have anything to do with me, I'm only guessing because I am gay, but who knows. It's sad because we could have been friends as the only two males in the class. We did have to do an assessment and practice a bed bath on each other but that was the only time the whole program he spoke to me.What I'm saying is who needs the guys, the women are in the same boat as you are.

Would see being the only male student in your class a problem?
I ve always done "female" jobs in the past so i am used to be on the minority side, doesnt bother at all. As a F/A i much more prefered to fly with girls than boys anyway. Having said that, in psychiatric nursing in the uk, 30% are male apparently, more than in Adult or other branches.
Well, as i have said before, i prefer to be working with girls than boys but again it depends. Regarding the straigh/gay thing i never had any problem with straight collegues. Of course, as a F/a straight guys expcted to be on the minority side! And in fact there was more tensions between straight guys themselves as with gay people, they did not see them as being a competitor (for girls!).
I know a lot of gay nurses are gay. However, as a future psychiatric nurse student i am dreaming of working in a forensic setting, say a prison or high security hospital, and there, i expect to have some negative experiences.
