So I hear they killed the PVT. Seems unfair and mean. Target: desperate, impatient nursing grads. Showing off their power to make those grads pay a whole $8 to get their results like we had to do before the PVT.

So bullies?

Regardless, at least in the great state of NY, the BON has your license number listed before 48 hours after you've taken/passed the NCLEX. That's why, not only did I not pay the $8, I didn't even use the trick!

Back when I had a dream of taking NCLEX I was naked in a room of bears growling at me every time I marked an answer and it was freezing cold and all I could find to eat was a soda cracker that would reappear at different intervals while the bears changed shifts.

Did you hear that Allnurses is supposedly going to charge $8 for anyone who posts a "does this work?" question.

When I saw this thread, I was afraid to let myself read it for fear of reflexively producing a scathing response that would've surely earned me points from the mods.

I took my NCLEX on a computer, we were among the first to do so, but still had to wait to get the license in the mail. There wasn't even the $8 for quicker than mail results back then. Even so, it took less than three weeks, and I was surprised when it arrived.

Sitting the NCLEX was a damn party back in the day (the 90's). We ate together, traveled to the exam together, drank together, and sat this exam together for two full days.

Walking out of the exam on day two, it was not so much a matter of wondering if we'd passed or not: We felt triumphant in that we were able to sit the exam in the first place. It was a sacred rite of passage.

One of my best memories of nursing school was taking that test. It was painful, but glorious. I didn't mind waiting four weeks for the results. Pass or fail, just taking the test was icing on the cake.

I feel badly that today's grads are cheated out of this most wonderful experience.

When I took mine we got a hotel room for the day before and the day after so we could celebrate responsibility. Van Halen was playing at the convention center at were at the hotel. I about crapped my pants when I got on the elevator with Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertonelli (sp) we got back stage passes ... we had a BLAST!

I did! Put when I checked I got the "good" pop-up so I didn't worry about it...I'm so relieved!!!:D

FYI...most states do pretty much the whole shebang electronically; this is a huge benefit to new grads who are anxious to get instant results. In FL, for example, who recently went completely electronic, my pass/fail status was available on the BON website before it was time to pay the $8 to see if I passed/failed with Pearson Vue.

Wow!

I would much rather have been on an elevator with Eddie Van Halen, at a concert, or enjoying fellowship with my nursing friends. I woke up early to drive in the snow (it was between xmas and NY), take the test, and go home alone. Cold. No one home. No distractions. No significant memory that I could share, or story to tell.

What a valuable memory you have to mark your test date! :-)

Yes. Greedy, power wielding bullies. I say show them whose really boss and wait the extra day for your state's BON to put your lic# up.
