So I hear they killed the PVT. Seems unfair and mean. Target: desperate, impatient nursing grads. Showing off their power to make those grads pay a whole $8 to get their results like we had to do before the PVT.

So bullies?

One poster reported that some students are actually calling PV and harassing them about fixing their software glitch. Not smart.

Can you imagine this scenario:

student: 'I'm so ______ with you pieces of ______, you are just doing this to get more money!'

PV: 'Nope.'

student: 'if you don't bring back your glitch, I'm going to write my nursing board'

PV: 'mmmmmmkay, go ahead'

student: 'do it right now! I am testing tomorrow and I want to get my results right away...if it isn't ready, I am going to give the testing center hell and tell everyone there what pieces of ___________ you are!'

PV: 'where are you testing?'

student: 'at _______________ college quad'

PV: 'Thanks. You need to call the BON and arrange an alternate means of testing. If you show up to the test center, you will be refused admission to the test. We will also be notifying your board of nursing about your threats.'

student: 'huh?'

Hands DOWN worthy of a post in the NCLEX forum!

Oh yes, back in the olden days we went to the state capitol for 2 days of testing with paper and #2 pencils!

We then had to wait 6-8weeks to get the results! If it was a passing score, the letter was small, if you failed, they sent you a new application in a large manila envelope.

I got the thin letter!

Well calling PV and yelling at them will get you no where.. They simply fixed a "trick" that wasn't supposed to be there anyway. Pay the $8 or wait it out. Again the wait is NOTHING now compared to what it used to be. Go watch the grass grow, clean the house, wash the car, take a nap, watch some TV, socialize with those people you haven't seen in forever due to school. Just keep busy!

But wait for it: a barrage of posts declaring PV to be highway robbers because they had the audacity to TAKE the $200 some idiots are going to pay....merely to find out if they passed.

And if it doesn't go through as a charge because they DID pass, bully for them. But if the charge DOES go through even though they passed, you can bet the complaint will still be there ("why did it take the money I offered it?!?").

Future test-takers need to take the test, and focus ON that test, period. Then, in 48 hours, pay the EIGHT bucks for QR (last time I checked, $8 was less than $200). If State doesn't do QR, sorry, you'll need to wait.

But either way, the results will be accurate!

In my state names of people who have licenses are posted early the next workday. People need patience!

WI BON updates results hourly. Just stalking the Dept of Regulation and Licensing website is fast enough and more accurate than any PVT. My friend found out she passed by later the same day just by finding her license had been listed active.

IMO, I'm also glad to see the PVT die. Too many threads from students getting worked up and trying to read things into it, and then with the number of false results began to rise, students got even more frantic.

Did you hear that Allnurses is supposedly going to charge $8 for anyone who posts a "does this work?" question.

:sarcastic:

I want a cut of that for aggravation pay.

Dang.

Sitting the NCLEX was a damn party back in the day (the 90's). We ate together, traveled to the exam together, drank together, and sat this exam together for two full days.

Walking out of the exam on day two, it was not so much a matter of wondering if we'd passed or not: We felt triumphant in that we were able to sit the exam in the first place. It was a sacred rite of passage.

One of my best memories of nursing school was taking that test. It was painful, but glorious. I didn't mind waiting four weeks for the results. Pass or fail, just taking the test was icing on the cake.

I feel badly that today's grads are cheated out of this most wonderful experience.

Back in my day, we took our boards in a big room with proctors and rows and rows of wooden desks in a huge room. The tests took two days, if I recall. I had to go into the big city and stay with my cousin. The rest of my class stayed in hotels, because they didn't have relatives there.

Then we waited. I don't think I got my results for a couple of months. Those times were harsh, but we were tough. I figured I passed because, well, I studied hard, I had done well in school, I took the review course, and my school prepared us well, even though it was a lowly ADN one.

We didn't have computers in those bygone times...

I remember those days, anxiously checking the mailbox every day for WEEKS -- even though I knew my results weren't coming for another few weeks. We did, actually have computers in those days. My mother worked with one -- it was the size of our house! And had less processing power than the little computer I carry in my pocket these days.

Regardless, at least in the great state of NY, the BON has your license number listed before 48 hours after you've taken/passed the NCLEX. That's why, not only did I not pay the $8, I didn't even use the trick!
