PARENTS say the darndest things

I just had a dad say to me after I informed him that his kid has missed 18 days of school so far:

"Well, he is so far ahead of all the other kids in his class, what's the big deal"? ?

Meanwhile this kid is a total space cadet, definitely has issues with processing...

What fun things have parents said to you lately?

This morning, sent kid home with true fever. Grandma just called to say she gave him tylenol, he's feeling much better, can he come back??

Yeah, no. See ya Monday kid!

I had a grandma who does relative foster care tell me that the vaccinated kids in her household got the flu worse last week, while the unvaccinated kid only had a mild case of it. She also believes that by being unvaccinated, he's more prone to becoming a silent carrier of various diseases without showing any symptoms, and vaccinated kids who are prone to getting sick should stay away from him, which is why she keeps him home for 72 hours every time he gets sick. Oh, and Airborne works better than vaccines. Yup.

"I've heard there's a nasty stomach bug going around school. You should really be reporting this to parents."

I check our attendance record...today is literally the highest percent of attendance in the entire time I've worked here. 98% attendance both today and yesterday.

"Well he started feeling bad on Friday and was worse over the weekend. We took him to the doctor on Monday and he was diagnosed with the flu then. Did the flu start on Friday when he started feeling bad or on Monday when they diagnosed him with the flu?"

Definitely Friday. But, if we're being honest, more like 1-3 days before that.

My favorite is when I call a parent and tell them their student has a 102.6 fever and they ask me if they need to pick them up. Yep!!! This is not a new rule, this rule has been around for a while.

Yes this! Or the ones that argue, but they were fine when I dropped them off!!! Ok well I'm not making this up, I have better things to do so come and get them!

I had a TEACHER inform ME the flu was going around and was I aware? Oh I don't know, are YOU aware there are kids learning today?

I had a parent furious with me because her son scraped his hand on the fence but didn't come and tell me about it or tell any teachers he got hurt. So she throws his hand in my face and says LOOK. It was literally a tiny superficial scratch that he said didn't even bleed. Ok well aside from the fact it's minor, exactly how exactly am I supposed to be able to help him if I don't know again??? ?

A kinder threw up yesterday. Twice. Not Bigfoot pukes, either - once in front of the teacher and once in front of me about an hour before school ended. Mom comes, I give her our written policy on keeping children with emesis home for 24 hours.

This morning dad is in the clinic yelling at me about how it was something she ate and how she will miss her field trip. You bet, I'll just put that kid on a bus sir where she might puke AGAIN. He said "Well, YOU'LL have to tell her." No problemo.

SMH.

Kid comes to my office this morning crying not feeling well..... Called Grandma she states oh I know she has fever I told the teacher that and I gave her meds. But she just insisted on coming to school. Im sorry but that is not how it works.

This was a while ago...

Student with no previous medical diagnoses has textbook absence seizure, call parent to inform, advise to pick up and take them to get checked out. "I bet they just fell asleep with their eyes open again, that's happened before." ?
