Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

Do you have any idea what things are included in the technology bundle? I have no idea what it really even is.

Eeek. I just had my last summer class session for intro to nursing today. It's nice to get that out of the way. Now our books won't be available for purchase or even be able to know what they are (they changed some books this year) until August 17..... What am I supposed to so with myself for an entire month? Lol. After that though, only 2 weeks for classes to start!

My friend and I took a quick self guided tour of the nursing floor, let me say that Sims are creepy when the floor is empty, lol.

I have no idea what's in the technology bundle- I just know I have to buy one!

Specializes in Post Acute, Med/Surg, ED, Nurse Manager.

Peninsula College, Olympic Peninsula Washington State.

Specializes in Adult Psychiatry, Correctional/Forensic Psychiatry.

Preparing for nursing school is expensive, there are so many books required for each class, I still have to get those but a part of me is wondering if I should wait until I start classes (or is that not a good idea?!). I just spent $200 on the scrubs and lab coat required and I still have to decide what shoes to get and stethoscope. This is too much. Lol.

Gett eh books ahead of time DONT wait until class starts be prapared. You can use (generally) plain black shoes. I love my sketchers work shoes as a CNA. I LOVE them and they last and have no markings so they are great for nursing. As far as a stethoscope they sell some fairly cheep sets of BP cuffs but that can generally wait til you start clinicals. Just get books, and buy required clinical gear outlined as required ahead of time. I have to buy all of my kits, and books no later than the 1st. But clinicals don't start until half way through first quarter sometimes.

Specializes in CMSRN.
I'm starting the program in August, I'm pretty excited and nervous. I made one upperclassman nursing friend and she helped a lot. She sold 2 nursing books to me for under $20 (which I thought was generous of her). She also let me know which supplies/items I truly need for nursing school (some items are not required or used). I also learned from her what to expect from orientation and clinicals. I feel a less nervous then before. I think it's important to ask someone who went through the program.

Always good to have a friend like that!!!

I'm right there with you on the waiting. I have gone from taking classes every 8 weeks to none for the last 4 months and it's driving me crazy. I'm just not used to it at all. My kids are even confused as I have so much time on my hands. They are used to me working or studying a lot!

Orientation is August 11th and I'm so ready to get this started.

Enjoy your free time now! I'm going into my third week and I find myself having to study every free moment I have! We had three quizzes last week and two exams next week on top of having homework every day. I'm not complaining, I just want everyone to enjoy being with family and friends before your classes start. But I know that when this is over, I'll be able to start my dream career as a RN.

I'm somewhere between being eager to start and soaking up all my free time. I'm going to six flags next week--thought I'd get it in now before it's too late!

Is the coursework interesting so far?

How did you do on your quizzes? How difficult were they? If you don't mind me asking.

Thank God I passed all three! They weren't bad at all, I was just nervous about having three in one week. And my granddaughter was born last week so honestly I spent so much time at the hospital I didn't study like I should have. But I'm back on track now! :geek:
