Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

Purple_roses, I completely understand. It hurt me so much to buy that Littman Stethscope, but I know it will be of great worth for my education! As for the shoes, I have never heard of those. I also wanted to buy a pair of sketchers, but I don't have many options because my shoes have to be white leather. I ended up buying Nurse Mate Dove Slip On shoes for a total of $55 on the Super Shoes website. I think it's a pretty good deal especially since they are slip resistant and stain resistant.

Hello Nikpond and purplecat! Glad you guys found this forum! I'm also hesitant to spend a lot of money, but I do think it's worth it for the stethoscope. I'm trying to decide between the Littmann se 2 or 3. I'm so cheap, I even went to thrift stores and pawn shops to see if I could find one there--no luck. I'll probably order mine from AllHeart.

I've also been wondering about shoes. I was going to go with simple Sketchers and just put gel inserts inside, but a coworker of mine suggested Spring Step nursing shoes. Anyone ever heard of them?

I found these really comfy walking shoes at Nordstrom rack from easy spirit w/ memory foam for $40. It was in black but since I have recieved my detailed supply list I chose not to buy it. Look around there are pretty good deals out there when it comes to shoes. If you live close to a Marty's shoes store, they tend to have very good quality and comfy shoes. Happy hunting!

Specializes in Trauma/Ortho/Plastics.

And a question, I am really bad at math conversions. Are there any books you recommend?

"Dimensional Analysis for Meds" by Anna M. Curren is a good one to use when practicing math conversions. The newer edition is a bit pricey so I would suggest purchasing an older edition.

This is one of my required texts, so far it seems alright

l also start in August so I have been working doubles until two weeks before school. saving money for anything else that comes up.

no shopping list given yet. I have been looking into a laptop and backpack.

Good Luck everyone!!

My letter should be in the mail tomorrow :nailbiting:

Victor's 2017, fresh out of my first full year. Got my butt kicked in so many ways in the Fall, but I think I've learned my lesson. I also managed to use bandage scissors more than people told me I would.

AllHeart is having a 10% off sale today if anyone still needs to buy clinical supplies. Just throwing that out there :)

Hi all!! I will be starting the ADN program on Aug 17th. Super excited to begin but enjoying what is left of my summer:) I have been doing prereqs for the past 3 years and I am now ready for the transition into the nursing program.

Any word yet FNPwannabe?

Hello all! Also SO HAPPY I found this thread... Kinda feels like you're the only person going into nursing until you get on here hahah.... Anywho... First day of classes and orientation is the last week of August and I am SO excited and nervous. We get our whole list (books, scrubs, etc.) on the first day, so I feel nervous I can't be hunting for stuff until then, but oh well...

Also... just incase any of you are still looking for your stethoscopes... my sister is an NP, and said Littman is the way to go, but also there is a Littman lightweight option. It's maybe a dollar or two more (if that) and she says it makes allll the difference. She says you wouldn't think it, but when you have it around your nexk for an 8 or 12 hour shift, it makes a huge difference. Just incase you guys are thinking long term...

Again, so excited and good luck to everyone! Yay Class of 2017!!!!!

I got in!!!! So glad to be a part of this group!!!
