Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

Published

Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! :nailbiting: I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.

Does anyone else think that getting into a nursing school is more competitive this year ?

For example, Sf state is only on the 9th alternate while last year they got down to #56.

I think they are competitive, but I am glad they are. I would hate for people with mediocre grades and no drive to get in and possibly distract others. We had 250 people apply to the program I got into, and they accepted 45ish - I can't remember exactly.

Hey could everyone post what their GPA was and what their scores for any entrance tests were? I find out next week if I got in to one school and just wanted to see everyone's stats.

Studentnurse that was about the same with my school, although we had a little less applications, but they accepted 40. Acceptance was based on GPA and an interview. I had a 4.0.

Wow they're only on 9? I got my acceptance last month and I was 7. I don't think it's more competitive so much as the people who applied this year actually intended on accepting and not just using SFSU as a backup plan. There's still time, have to stay positive.

I went to Walmart today and they are setting up for back to school. Part of me was like yaaaaay nursing school I can't wait to start and the other part was like nooooooooo not yet I'm not ready to go back to school yet. Lol.

7.5 more weeks left. I feel like it's going to go by so fast and yet s.....o...... s.....l.....o.....w......l.....y.

My Intro to Nursing class has 2 weeks left, and I'm hoping that by the time that is over they will let us know what books we need and post some info on our cohorts virtual meeting space.

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted for the Fall 2015 semester! I start in August and i am FREAKING out trying to get everything in order outside of school and also get my newly diagnosed ADHD under control. I'm very excited and can't wait to jump into it! Good luck to everyone

The stages of nursing school as told by Buzzfeed The 30 Stages Of Nursing School From Start To Finish

I have orientation for my BSN at the end of July and start in August. I've told myself to enjoy this summer as it may be the last vacation I'll have for a while but I just want to start class already. I'm worried about the book situation as I'll be commuting on a motorcycle and I can't lug too many with me. Congrats to everybody and good luck!

I would definitely check to see if your program allows the use of e books. One of my instructors informed us yesterday that our Pharmacology class has 7 books!! Lord Jesus!!!

I'm so happy I found this thread. I have orientation next month, August, and start classes first week of September. I was hoping to start some studying so I don't get overwhelmed and intimidated when classes begin. I'm super excited and can't wait to start. I hope we can all keep updating as we continue or journey to becoming a Nurse. We get our suppy list at orientation and we also have to purchase a complete uniform from the school, so I'm a bit hesitant to buy anything if I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it. I am thinking about purchasing the Littmann stethoscope though. What books should I use to prepare? Any suggestions?

Like Nikpond, I just found this thread. Congrats to everyone else who as accepted in the nursing program! I am happy to be in this journey along with you guys. On August 24th, I start my 16 month accelerated nursing program. I am really nervous since I have never been the type of student to take accelerated classes or all AP classes in high school, but I'm sure I can do it with a lot of hard work and dedication. However, I am really excited too! I already bought my uniform, shoes, lab supplies, updated my immunizations, and I take my CPR class in two weeks. I am just waiting for my professors to post the textbooks we need, I only ordered the pharm book. I hope they do soon so that I can get the best deal and I can read them for fun before I start my classes.

Nikpond, I purchased a Littmann Classic II S.E today. At first I was going to buy a stethoscope for around $20, but after some research on the allnurses forums and other websites I decided to get it even though it's pretty expensive. I thought, why not? I am in the nursing program and I want to do the best I can. And I saved a lot of money by renting most of my books for my pre-reqs, so I might as well spend more for the nursing program. Hope this helps.

And a question, I am really bad at math conversions. Are there any books you recommend?

I really don't want to spend too much money because I do plan on cutting back on work hours, but if I must I guess I'll go with the Littmann. I just purchased the Nursing demystified for Dummies book off of amazon (used) for $13. I read a lot of good reviews about it, it will my remainder of the summer reading so I can get a head start.

When it comes to anything math, I always recommend khan academy. The explanations are great and it's free. As far as books go, try B&N and look for books on conversions. If you get practice books and use it in conjunction with khan academy online it should be a really good prep.

Good Luck! Keep us updated.

Hello Nikpond and purplecat! Glad you guys found this forum! I'm also hesitant to spend a lot of money, but I do think it's worth it for the stethoscope. I'm trying to decide between the Littmann se 2 or 3. I'm so cheap, I even went to thrift stores and pawn shops to see if I could find one there--no luck. I'll probably order mine from AllHeart.

I've also been wondering about shoes. I was going to go with simple Sketchers and just put gel inserts inside, but a coworker of mine suggested Spring Step nursing shoes. Anyone ever heard of them?
