Oh no! please...please not that

people say that everybody in medicine has got something, something that totally grosses them out.

this tissue, organ, bodily function is avoided at all costs or you'll :barf01:.

i haven't come acrossed mine yet... (i'm a little scared of what it'll be, i know its lurking out there somewhere).

what's yours?

As a patient, I've learned so much coming to this site. But this thread says it all. If I ever hear a patient complain about their treatment during a hospital stay, they'll get an earful from me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being there for us. :heartbeat

Dirty, crusty feet. The kind when you take off a sock and create a snow storm of skin flakes. The kind with so much dead skin and crud built that there's no space between the toes. The kind with long, yellow, fungusy toe nails that curl over the ends of the toes or in every other direction.

But black, dried up gangrenous toes that fall off in your hand are a very close second.

Oh yeah, definitely nasty, especially when the patient's fan is on and it blows all over the place when you least expect it!:smackingf

Although I am in favor of it, the idea of organ donations makes me a little dizzy.

I've been volunteering for almost a year, and quickly discovered that vomit, poop, mucus, etc. doesn't bother me that much. I've seen a chest tube put in, Gamma Knife surgery, a GI bleed, a HUGE laceration being sutured, staples put into a head wound....none of it made me dizzy or nauseous.

What made me break out in a cold sweat and almost pass out was watching a circumcision. It makes me want to curl up in fetal position just thinking about it now! Of course, the baby did just fine! :D

Just reminded me of another..

I saw an episiotomy on a severely mutilated woman (FGM) in nursing school found my self clenching all my muscles as I fled the room. That was my first, now i give them whenever needed but still clench on mine.

I can handle the poop and the puke without getting too queasy but what gets me is.....ear wax!! ugh the chunks :barf02:

Anything to do with eyeballs makes me weak in the knees and that cold sweat happens immediately!!!! *shudders*

Snot makes me heave i cant stand the stuff

and dirty, smelly, unwashed for months feet-first time i ever hit the deck was a few days ago when i peeled this ladies socks off her feet and the smell combined with the black and brown flakey 'stuff/dirt' and ewwwwwwwwww-her toes were kinda glued together with dirt

Neuro breath gets me every time. I get through oral cares just barely, mainly because the family is watching. YUCK YUCK YUCK. Then there is that really distinct pseudomonas smell most of our trach kids have. I've bathed one little guy every 2 hours just make being in the room tolerable.

I do okay pretty much with everything "medical", but I get violently sick when I smell pure body odor. the kind you smell on people from 40 feet away. the thick, noxious kind that you smell for days after you first smell it. I have no tolerance for people who do not bathe. yuck !
