If I still think to this day that American Psycho was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, does that mean I'm a shoe-in for nursing?

BTW, whichever poster said its about advertising probably hit the nail on the head. A handful of schools forked over advertising dollars, so yahoo decided, "how do we fit these schools into one article together?"

brb I have to return some videotapes.

"Hey, Mr. Smith, did ya hear the one about the -- 1 amp bicarb -- chicken and the duck who -- epi, please --- who went in and bought a time share together? Well, -- shockable rhythm, clear please -- the chicken decided to have an affair with the duck's wife, and ...."

Come on...I wanna hear the punch line.

In all seriousness it kinda ticks me off that someone is putting this out there (what is the author's and/or the career coach's connection to these for profit schools?) giving people the impression that most nurses got into the career because it is a laugh a minute. Beyond that, the ridiculousness of the whole thing ticks me off....oh well.

They must have talked to a psychiatric nurse. You can't make up the stuff that we get to see every day.

I was just going to say this. This is why I loved being a psych nurse!

Isn't it odd that on the next article it is listed as a career for smart people? Yahoo is ridiculous. IMO, any job will have some fun sometime or another. But saying that nursing is all fun all the time is stepping too far.

I feel like people are uneducated about what nursing really is. I'm still confused about it, and I've been a nurse for a little over a year.

I see nursing advertised everywhere. It seems like people don't have the brains to realize there must be a reason nurses get paid "well". I'd assume that a high paying job you can have after 2 years of college must entail some difficulty or everyone would just be a nurse.

I'll admit, I've had lots of fun on the job, including pulling some pretty good pranks on coworkers (yes, even in the middle of surgery), but there's also been a lot of having to go out to the family and let them know that things aren't going all that well. This article makes it sound like nursing is focused on having fun. I mean really, bringing up working different shifts to have more fun off the clock? Are they still focused on the "adult" version of the nurse where it's all fun and games or something? How about the fact that we are educated professionals who happen to literally have our patients' lives in our hands? Where's the mention of that in the article?

Some FUN facts for nursing;

Auto mechanic- $70.00/hr(labor charge. I know for a fact- I just came from the garage and have my estimate)***

Plumber $80.00-100.00/hr(labor charge, just for the house call know for a fact, I paid the bill)***

Electrician $70.00/hr(labor charge- to fix a .59 wall socket. know for a fact. I paid this bill also)***

Dentist $60.00/hr( as advertized to work in a public health clinic that also offers tuition!! reimbursement via the Public Health Service for working in an underserved area)

Physicians Assist- $49.00- $55.00/hr( via my own interview of a PA on how much she makes)

Registered Nurse( not an APN/NP)- $22.00-50.00/hr( depending on which part of the US you live in, no reimbursement for working in an underserved area)

What's wrong with this picture?????????????????? I make $31.25/hr(with 32yr experience)- My auto mechanic makes more than twice what I make and he's a lot younger than I am!!!!!!!!!!! Why go to a nursing program and end up with thousands of dollars of student loan debt for there to be no job, can't hang out your own shingle and go into business for yourself with just the RNorRN/ BSN. But: a trades person can even if there are no jobs with a company, can do work under the table, on the side. and earn more money per hour than a nurse.!!!!!! Just saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You forgot sports figures they can make 40 million a year and have no college what so ever. This is a great country. Throw a baseball 40 million. Save a life maybe 50 to 100,000 if you are lucky. President of the US 400,000 for running the country President of Goldman Sacks. investment firm 40 million running one company.

Labor charge is different than salary. Very different. Those jobs usually pay their employees anywhere from $10-20/hr, and the ones making $20 had to go to school or work in the field for a very long time to get there. When you get your bill for a doctor's visit, the doctor isn't getting paid $125 per 15 minutes. A large portion of that goes into overhead, just like those labor charges. You're comparing apples and oranges, love.

i agree 100% however, i can take it a bit further, the national football league player with "0" experience salary starts at $225,000 and this was in 2006. now that makes me wonder where are our priorities as a society lay, to give someone that amount just to play with a ball, and when it comes to those that can save your life! we have to fight to earn not even a 3rd of that :banghead:

Lord, how many starry-eyed kids are going to fall for this crap, only to (if they can actually get a job) end up losing they're sanity in a run down nursing home taking care of 30 patients ? All the while being in debt for $40,000.I can see it coming to a forum near you,"But, Yahoo said it was going to be FUN !"

and their posts will read, in order:

"I just got excepted at Whoopee State"

"My Proctor in Clinical doesn't like me"

"Graduate Today!"

"NCLEX Tomorrow"

Passed the NCLEX, Now I am a Nurse like you."

"Why Can't I get a Job?"
