This kinda made me laugh. Any thoughts?
Lord, how many starry-eyed kids are going to fall for this crap, only to (if they can actually get a job) end up losing they're sanity in a run down nursing home taking care of 30 patients ? All the while being in debt for $40,000.I can see it coming to a forum near you,"But, Yahoo said it was going to be FUN !"
Just spilt my coffee all over my computer. We are listed with a travel writer and fashion designer. People believe this stuff.....no wonder these poor new grads are shocked when the graduate.
Having been both being a "fashion designer" is about as unfun as nursing is. Though nursing is way more serious and intellectually rewarding.
So what was number 1 Undertakers?
I think my jobs are fun....I really do. Certainly not every moment is happy- far from it- but I actually enjoy going to work every day.
I am a second career nurse....fell into it on impulse....and am so happy I did.
Reading some of the posts I do wonder why some people continue. If your job is not fun, the hours are crap, co-workers are lazy, doctors are arrogant, you are understaffed and work too hard....then why do it? That was EXACTLY how I felt about my first career -social worker for state department of social and health services- so I left. Got a new career that I love.
Having said that...the Yahoo article was just goofy as all get-out. But, let's also give some credit to potential nursing students. If you are with-it enough to get into nursing school and make it through the classes you are also probably smart enough to figure out that nursing isn't about rainbows, sing-a-longs, and golden unicorns.

HA! Hahahahahahahahahaha!
And that is my commentary on that article.
Oh, and this quote: "Sometimes bad news must be given, and it's during these situations that having registered nurses who are fun-loving, outgoing, and lighthearted can be important." Uhhh, Yahoo, no amount of my being lighthearted helps when I am calling a family to tell them to come see their family member for what will be the last time, and hoping they make it to the hospital in time. As a matter of fact, giving ANY bad news is not really the time to be light-hearted OR "fun-loving." Really?! Get a clue!
