Nurses, what do u do on ur day off?

Published

After working and going to school full time to become a nurse, I finally graduated earlier during the summer. I went from being busy everyday, to having four days off! I found myself get bored to death by the second day off . My social schedule is not as demanding as Paris Hilton's, but I am not a loaner. I always have one or two social things to do during the week, but nothing special.

Anyway, it hit me when one of my co-workers was talking to me about how she loved rock climbing, and another could not look forward to his taekwando class; I have nothing else I am actively passionate about other than nursing! How sad I thought... I had always toyed with the idea of taking up a sport, a hobby, or getting involved in some kind of club when I had the time and some money. Finally, I have both! So, I ordered a tennis racket and balls online, and found a private tennis instructor (only 25 bucks an hour!). Now, I hope to make it my new hobby.

So, tell me nurses what are you passionate about aside from nursing? Are you a full time mum/dad on your days off, do you have a hobby, do you just enjoy your quite time with a nice book? I'm curious to know, what do you do on your days off???

Usually I sleep on the first day as late as I feel like....then I'll get up, run errands, do some shopping, organize my checkbook, pay bills, then I usually think about going to a movie, maybe shopping, maybe out, phone friends/family, go to the gym(which I need to do more often!), go to the bookstore have a coffee, write poetry, read, watch TV...wow, that's a lot! lol!

I actually have a week off coming up(WOW!) and I'm thinking about going on a date, calling a cousin, going to my dad's, and going to the city(chitown)....so a lot this week!

The first day off I sleep late the usually bum around the apartment. I love to cook, so if I have something defrosted (or remember to take it out of the freezer the night before) i'll whip something up. Also clean the apartment, do little things here and there. If its nice out i'll go for a walk, go to the book store and just relax with some magazines and coffee. Being that I live in the Manhattan and close to Central Park, on nice days i'll go rollerblading there or relax with the newspaper on the Great Lawn. Still looking for a hobby that's not overly expensive. I would love to take a digital photography class at a local community college (I did 35mm photography in college and highschool) but it's expensive. Any suggestions? I'm open to ideas!!

I've got kids and a hubby to take care of, along with practicing my (albiet poor) housekeeping skills. And I'm back in school. I do like to read and watch movies at home when I get a chance.

I have my lovely daughter to take care of when she's not in school or out playing with her friends. Also I ride my lovely motorbikes ( when my leg is better), rock climb, mountaineer and am a volunteer emergency service rescuer. I do quite a bit of charity work, raised £15,000 for breast cancer research last year and £14,000 this year for another cancer charity with some friends (sounds impressive but we did it riding out motorbikes so the money raised was a bonus :D.)

After all that I'm with Michigan - I sleep

I waste plenty of time on my days off. :)

I sleep, clean house, take care of an 18 month old toddler, and play with a 5 year old little girl, as well as cart her to and from school and to Girl Scouts, soccer, and dance. I am also rather involved with her Girl Scout troop and serve as a co leader. When we are actually working on a production, which these days is rare... I am involved in community theatre.

I stay pretty busy with my kids and have found that I really have little to no time invested in "me" anymore. I used to be very passionate about art and even have a BA in Visual Art from a past life =), but I haven't really done any major work in more than a year.

I would like to get back into doing some kind of artistic work. I also like to sing and wouldn't mind doing some more karaoke; I used to go all the time before my kids were born. I really need to rediscover *me*.

Ooops, forgot to mention, watching COLLEGE SPORTS!!! Yeah!!

Also, I do like to work out, when I can find the energy.

I sleep the first day off then wake up in the evening (I'm a night shift gal) and start laundry and cleaning). THe next day I usually go out to lunch with a friend and run some errands, swim in the pool watch some tv and relax. We also like to take small day trips or weekend trips when possible so we head to the beach or to visit family pretty often.

Tennis lessons today at 5p! I tried to go shopping for tennis clothes yesterday and boy where they expensive, $100 for a top and skirt! I can't afford it, can I??? Ha, they looked so cute, maybe I will convince myself its okay before class and head to nike again... For now I thinking about rocking a t-shirt and shorts.
