I am coming back to this forum, after being away for many years, to communicate this message to you:
Are you kidding me? Why is this profession on "blast" everywhere? Every Instagram post has some covid/nursing/hero quote within it. Nurses are now dancing all over tik tok? Do you think this is cool? Do you think this is what professionalism is about? It is to the point where I am almost ashamed of being a nurse; our traditional nurse leaders are rolling over in their graves. Have humility, stop talking bad / complaining about how awful your jobs are. You came into this profession, probably for the $ and cause every other post on facebook influenced you. This is all part of the agenda: flood hospitals with nurses to drive down wages, make working conditions worse, and pay less. Basic supply/demand strategy used by all corporations to make their workers replaceable). There are plenty of good nurses out there, I am sure. I am just disgusted by the profession's turn: Nurses are shaking all their goods for social media; nurses have no respect for their patients and do nothing but talk chit. I am nothing like most of you, I am ashamed of you, have some respect. Be humble, stop fishing for attention on social media.

I agree it's inappropriate.
I am not on facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Crap Rap, Clap Trap or whatever. The closest I get to social media is a discussion forum like this one. I can live without being glued to my phone and I contact my real friends in real life via real life means.
I honestly have not seen this much......but I also tend to be in a clueless world and just don’t do social media. Ever since I left the ER in the midst of covid, I just want to leave work at work and not think a whole lot about nursing in general outside of work....maybe this is just part of post ER brain recovery ?

I'm telling you, I've been on internet groups since the inception of the concept on listserv in the days of dialup and the OP needs a lot more practice before I'd even calling this entry level trolling.
The OP is a seeker all right, but not for "truth" only for attention.
We had to sign some no media thingy way back. We can't even have pictures posted with our work badges on social media. So I don't know how some nurses are allowed to vent about work conditions at their hospitals? I assume they must be travelers since they don't have to follow all the rules others do.

I was actually thinking the same thing ?

I'm happy to report that most nurses in the US aren't doing it either.

Yep, it's abundantly clear that you are not like most of us. I mean "most" of us aren't on a forum condemning a huge group of people (none of which you actually know) for what a small minority NOT even on this forum are doing. I know very few nurses who are doing any of the stuff you're railing about. Social media uses algorithms that learn what your viewing habits are, and then they feed you endless amounts of it....making that content seem far more common that it really is.

Did any of us say it's cool...or that that's what professionalism is about? You're coming on here just looking for a fight. Meanwhile, we're just chillaxin' and thinking, "Who the *** is this raving lunatic!?!?" It would have been easy enough to begin a conversation about the topic, solicit feedback, thoughts, etc without going into attack mode and making yourself look like a fool. ??♂️

Free speech allows this. However, there are always consequences for free speech and many a nurse has been fired for inflammatory posts. It is also written in our policies that were are not to discredit our employer on social media.
But also Hospitals and employers are in on the trend. Pretty much all hospitals have a social media site. Many put up the dancing videos by their staff, or create musicals themselves. A few years ago we had a video contest to see who made the best video about hand washing. All the videos were funny, included dancing, singing nurses and staff. They put them all up on their social media site.
It's a matter of opinion if this kind of stuff promotes business and the nursing profession or is unprofessional.

I would also expect that you would be attacked because the very tone of your post is not constructive but condescending, especially when you tell members of your own profession that you are ashamed of them. You painted your fellow nurses with a very broad brush, discounting the fact that the things that you are lambasting people for are not unique to the nursing profession, you are railing against personalities as if they are unique to nurses.
People across all professions seek attention through a variety of media and for a variety of reasons. I've seen teachers posting videos decrying their unfair treatment, police officers, retail workers, etc. What you are annoyed by is human nature, not nurses specifically. Who goes into their profession for something other than money? If people didn't need money they would volunteer. Your statement that nurses have no respect for their patients and do nothing but chit chat shows that you have decided that a small minority of the profession represents the whole. Rather than degrade everyone, maybe you could be the example that you think is needed in the profession. We are all nurses, sorry you're ashamed to be associated with us, because the majority of us are damn good at what we do and we deserve the same respect that we show others every day in our professional lives.
Agreed- the OP seems like it comes from a place of bitterness - and also from a time when it was “taboo” to talk about our feelings - when we had to be stoic, put our heads down be so serious and work. Are some nurses on social media inappropriate? Of course - should we be ashamed of the whole profession? No!
And I’m sorry but what the hell is wrong with crying!? Do you not realize that the profession of nursing deals with the whole spectrum of HUMAN emotion? this means we as humans also need to decompress and if that means crying then so be it - is that means looking at hilarious nursing memes because nurses are the only ones who can relate to one another and find the same stuff funny so then be it! During COVID we have beared witness to absolutely devastating tragic circumstances- people f’ing dying alone - who is very likely at their side? A NURSE - That is not something to be ashamed of - it is something to be proud of - did it ever occur to that perhaps these nurses showing videos of crying or their N95 marks to their face weren’t just seeking personal gratification with a personal “narcissistic” agenda? but maybe, just maybe they did so to wake the public (their friends/family) the F UP to the dangers/tragedies harsh realities associated with COVID. Yes nursing is hard, no it’s not the only hard job. But we are humans caring for other humans - no need to be cruel and “ashamed”. Oh and don’t assume we all entered into for the “lucrative” pay because I’m sure many of us can agree I have seen and smelled some things that No amount of money can pay me enough to stay if I didn’t genuinely love being a nurse ( most of the time :))

Considering Gallup just named nurses the most trusted profession for the 19th straight year, I guess that means the general public has not gotten the message that we're going to hell in a handbasket as far as professionalism goes.
