Nurses make me sick

Published

I am coming back to this forum, after being away for many years, to communicate this message to you:

Are you kidding me? Why is this profession on "blast" everywhere? Every Instagram post has some covid/nursing/hero quote within it. Nurses are now dancing all over tik tok? Do you think this is cool? Do you think this is what professionalism is about? It is to the point where I am almost ashamed of being a nurse; our traditional nurse leaders are rolling over in their graves. Have humility, stop talking bad / complaining about how awful your jobs are. You came into this profession, probably for the $ and cause every other post on facebook influenced you. This is all part of the agenda: flood hospitals with nurses to drive down wages, make working conditions worse, and pay less. Basic supply/demand strategy used by all corporations to make their workers replaceable). There are plenty of good nurses out there, I am sure. I am just disgusted by the profession's turn: Nurses are shaking all their goods for social media; nurses have no respect for their patients and do nothing but talk chit. I am nothing like most of you, I am ashamed of you, have some respect. Be humble, stop fishing for attention on social media.

While I do agree that some of the videos are unprofessional I think you may be overreacting a tad. Like I said before the whole 'look at me' trend is just ridiculous IMO, but it is still not mine, nor anyone else's, place to judge. You may have an opinion on how people are coping but you really can't tell just by a few responses or videos for that matter. I don't know why these people make these videos and neither do you, we can only speculate. That said, I do wish people in general would be more professional, civil, decent, and respectful.

Re the pizza, only a problem when admin is trying to buy you off with it! I like pizza but a flying fruit basket would be nice too.

I cant argue with you! We'd probably get along.

I triggered some of you who are doing nothing now other than arguing with me to help cope with an obvious decline in the profession. It's OK; I am here for you and will listen. Please see the Image I posted; it shares the stages of coping.

I guess since I bit on your earlier post about how you see a "need" to judge our fellow nurses, I am someone you consider triggered by your posts. I don't feel the least bit triggered, but I do see from your assessment that you've been doubted and repressed your entire life that you feel you possess a rare insight into the profession of nursing that the rest of us are lacking. The problem for me is that you don't have any data to back up your claim that there is an "obvious" decline in the profession. What outcomes are you measuring that show this decline? Has there been an increase in patient deaths due to nursing-related care? Have national Press-Ganey scores related to nursing care shown a recent decrease? If you don't have data, you have an opinion. And your opinion holds no more weight than anyone else's opinion. And when you present your opinion as fact and say your fellow nurses make you sick you just sound like a self-righteous jerk rather than someone vested in making positive changes in the profession.

And read the post, it got PLENTY of attention (65k views, this site may $$ off of ads due to post) because I had a solid point. Just because you don't like it, does not mean it is not worthy.

Yeah that was the point I was making in my previous post. Do you think you could make a post that would “get plenty of attention” for being an interesting and worthwhile discussion topic for nurses? Or do you think you get plenty of attention for making over-the-top comments and posts filled with dramatic word choices? It’s totally fine if that’s what you’re here to do and it’s not like this isn’t a worthwhile topic in some way, but you’re not a truth bringer, you’re just someone who flames a discussion board for the drama. But hey, I’m obviously here for it. ?

I am not a troll but I am a truth bringer. I get it, you are all a "click" and want to gang up on an outsider by calling me a troll. It's cool though I've been doubted and repressed my entire life, I know how to handle this. I m glad I triggered some of you who are doing nothing now other than arguing with me to help cope with an obvious decline in the profession. It's OK; I am here for you and will listen. Please see the Image I posted; it shares the stages of coping. Regarding the recent trend of unprofessionalism in nursing, I believe many of you are in stage 2, judging by your responses. I myself am in stage 3 and approaching stage 4. I hope in the future, nurses will find ways to enhance their professionalism. These tik tok videos are not professional. I m finding here people are defensive // coping // ignoring // just getting by.

I'd like to end this post with the definition of professionalism.

pro·fes·sion·al·ism

noun

the competence or skill expected of a professional.

"the key to quality and efficiency is professionalism"

the practicing of an activity, especially a sport, by professional rather than amateur players.

"the trend toward professionalism"

Hey, since you seem to like dictionary definitions, look up “clique” and see if mmmmaybe that’s what you mean when you wrote “click” above. It will help you appear more PROFESSIONAL to use the correct word when setting out to trigger others, a hallmark of nursing professionalism to be sure.

I could continue arguing with you, but it would just go back and fourth. You are obviously an intelligent person. We need that in nursing. Yep I agree my posts "flame" and I bring the heat. If no one challenges this complacency we will only doom ourselves. That is why I am good in my role today, I think differently, try to be creative, and go against the grain. I am sharing that with you in this post. Not saying you are going to like it.

I just think, if you’re going to complain about a lack of professionalism in nursing, you really should be bringing your A Game writing skills. As a decorated victor in many flame wars myself, grammatical sloppiness just embarrasses the seriousness of the pursuit.

OK I’m 23 so I will be the voice of reason here. You always will get a group of wackadoodles In any profession. Just look at the politicians we have! You have the opportunity to plug into facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, Youtube, or any other site and lament over what people say or do. Or you can be like me and choose not to have any social media. It’s your choice. Any good nurse will tell you that you can’t control other people and you have to always expect the unexpected. The fact that your even bothering to be upset over what others are doing is sad. Be the change you would like to see. Cheers on your journey!

I can't speak for the USA but to be honest here in France, most nurses aren't doing this.

I agree it's inappropriate.

I am not on facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Crap Rap, Clap Trap or whatever. The closest I get to social media is a discussion forum like this one. I can live without being glued to my phone and I contact my real friends in real life via real life means.

Just jumping in to say MOST nurses here aren’t doing it here either. But there are a lotttt of nurses, and some are, and therefore “nurse TikTok” has a ton of people.

I LOVE free food. I don’t consider it to be a slight like some people do. I work on a COVID unit and understand it is what it is. I work on my stomach. LOL

I wonder what is acceptable for people who mock it. I get money and staffing being common and I don’t disagree but at the same time that requires money and resources. ?

What is acceptable is to be properly staffed.

That said, I certainly don't refuse free food, and appreciate the gesture, but thought the Tik Tok was funny.  When we're' in Covid they deliver free food every shift and we don't turn it down.  LOL
