I don't find nurses any more or less religious then what I find non-nurses to be.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who makes it through nursing school and is ready to take the NCLEX would think that prayers would substitute for studying. If they believed that they would have flunked out long before then.

It would be rude for me to say please don't bother to offer your prayers or well-wishes. Just as it is rude to post a "barf" emoticon as your "contribution" to this thread.

Hmmm, how to answer this post. I DO believe in the Lord and I DO believe in the power of prayer, but not as a substitution for action when needed. I pray regardless. I pray in thanksgiving and for help to rise up to the challenge of hard tasks. I especially pray for His will to be done and for me to accept that unconditionally....and I do! If someone posts they need help with nclex, is there anything really I could tell them they they don't already know themselves that would truly make a difference? After 2 or 4 years of nursing school probably not. So what a person may want is encouragement which could come in the form of positive thoughts or suggestions on how to study or in the form of prayers offered. Would you really turn away someone's sincere offer of prayer or be irritated by it? I don't see how that could hurt you at all. I guess, if someone Is really offended by the thought of prayer in a reply they could say,"need help with passing nclex but please no prayers or religious replies." then I'll know to skip over your post. Just know I'll secretly say a prayer for you anyway:)

My personal experience in nursing school, nursing, and this board is that nursing tends to attracts a lot of religious people for whatever reason. I live in an area where there seems to plenty of secular people, and religious people who aren't loud about it. I've never encountered "out and loud" religion like I have since I started in nursing. I do see what I personally think is a large amount of posts talking about prayer. I don't believe in any of that stuff but honestly it's none of my business if somebody else does, and if they feel that praying to a god helped them pass NCLEX. Clearly anybody who passes is studying as well, because you could pray to Thor, Ra, Jesus, Krishna, etc. all you want but you'll fail if you don't study as well.

I would say that I am religous and believe in God. And I also I think God knows your heart ( if you really put forth the effort to study). BUT!!!!!!!!! If you don't study you will fail!!!!!. I think it's 50/50 you put in the work and God in return will bless you. I use to take test and was like oh God let me pass this test, when I know good and well that I didn't study a 100%.

Just like the rest of society, its a mixed bag. I am not religious so are a few others in my nursing program. If you go to the Ethics/Religion/Philosophy section, you will find a mixed bag of beliefs. Having said that, I let people find comfort in whatever they believe in. Whether its praying, chanting or meditating.To each his own. I do wish people would recognize that everyone is not religious so telling someone to pray becauase you do is not always applicable no matter what you believe. But oh well, thats another hornet's nest that we don't need to stir up right now.

I also believe in the power prayer. I believe if we do our best God will do the rest. Which mean we do have to study and work hard but prayer will move mountains.

There is no way I made it through nursing school and passing boards without the help of prayer and God.

When I'm scared of an exam and I tell someone about it, if they say "Just pray and everything will be fine" I dont take it as "Dont study, just pray and your good". I've always taken it as study. pray. and god will make a way. I'm a firm believer in speaking things that are not as though they are and in the power of prayer. I understand that different people have a different opinion on religion and what it means. But if you voice your concern about a test, I'm going to bring up God. Because thats all I know that has worked for me. Like i said, I understand not everyone believes in God and doesn't want to hear about praying and it'll work when asking about passing a test. But if you ask me "how did you pass this", then I don't see anything wrong with telling you exactly what helped me pass it, and that was God. Along with studying ofcourse. :)

Prayer gives confidence to people that believe in it. I think that is very helpful with school and exams. If they find it beneficial, more power to 'em.
