I once had the lab NOT call because results were so altered they thought it was a bad specimen and didn't feel it was necessary to check with the RN who has the patient in front of her. Guess who got written up!?

Oh, the lab person did of course - people never write up nurses for things that are other departments' faults!

Hgb 4.5, walked in to the ER with a complaint of "feeling a little run down lately." I bet!

LOL calivianya - this time it was me writing up the lab and it was SWEEEET! And I am not write up heavy. That was the first and only time I've felt compelled to write someone up and it was at my manager's direction.

K of 1.6 and alive. Pt had bulemia and was 2.1 at MD office, sent to ER and was 1.6 and after 100 MeQ replaced was 2.4. I know it had to have came up after that. I was just amazed that there were no EKG abnormalities with a K of 1.6.

I had a pt in the ICU and his k was 1.8 and severely elevated T waves. He was replaced aggressively (much more aggressively than I would have liked) and ended up on dialysis the next day for a k of 7. He had a severe head injury and was alive.

A good friend of mine was alive, alert, talking, walking around with a K+ 1.7. Went to MD bc her heart was 'skipping a beat' (her words) now and then.

I had an ETOH detox with a pH of 6.8. Closest I've ever seen a person to dying from detox.

Na+ of 119, k+ of 2.1. Chief complaint was heartburn and feeling cold.

The Dr ignored my first page, finally responded 2 hrs later after page #2. Ordered a recheck. Came back at Na+ 114, k+ 2.0. So glad I don't routinely work that floor! (Asked the charge if she needed seizure pads and tele, she rolled her eyes and told me to knock myself out if I was that worried.)
