a couple days ago i posted a thread about my instructor who talks way too much during lecture, well since then its gotten worst ! :angryfire

its to the point where she is using two classes to go over information for one class. she can't even go over a 25 page powerpoint in 3 hours ( which is one class), instead she uses two class days a total of 6 hours to go over one freakin powerpoint ! yesterday, she was suppose to finish up the lecture from last class which took the entire class time so she didn't even have enough time to go over the new material that we will be tested on monday. all can she can say is sorry, things happen.... the only thing thats happening is that she runs her mouth way too much.

so she told us to read the powerpoint and ask her if we have any questions later.

we pay all this money to go to nursing school and she's not even giving us our monies worth ! :angryfire

i've never been so furious in my life. next time i see her i must tell her how cheated i feel for her not to go over pertinent information d/t her running her big fat mouth !

well vent is over, thanks for reading.

You have to be very careful about any complaints against your instructor! You do the reading and take notes. Lecture is to clear up what you didn't understand in the reading. Many students learn by connecting stories to the material. Instructors are often given that type of feedback and structure their future lectures on that feedback. I learn by remembering stories that are specific to lecture. You will not change your instructor! The future classes may benefit, but I would bet your class won't. It takes a long time to do those power points. She could just post them and tell you to go over them yourselves and talk about baking brownies all day.

It's up to you to ask pertinent questions that keep things more on track. Make connections and she'll get it. If not, just get through it. She can fail you in the blink of an eye so tread lightly. Another instructor really doesn't have the authority to tell your instructor to redo what she is doing. Sometimes its best to work it through the back door by asking those questions that bring her back to her power point. Good luck!

I guess I'd be ok with that, but probably b/c I am not doing online BSN coursework and it's almost all self directed. LOL There is no instructor going over the powerpoint. I read the book, lessons we're given over blackboard and do the quizzes. If I have questions I can e-mail or call, but otherwise it's all me.

Well thats the point I'm not taking online classes and I pay a load of money to get a quality education. Online classes are not for me right now so if I was in an online class I would never expect for an instructor to go over anything. I'm in a class where instructors are SUPPOSED to go over the material and give us time to ask questions she does neither !

how am i supposed to ask pertinent questions on a powerpoint that i receive five minutes before the class is over ?

also, she is rambling so much that i can't even get to ask a question. :o. i'm used to being a self learner, i have not made it this far through nursing school with getting hand outs from instructors. i read, study, eat, breath and sleep nursing school. however, she is there to instruct us and give us guidance, however she can't do that because she's constanty getting off topic and digressing. i know what my responsiblities are as a student and i live up to them, all i need for her to do is do the job that she is getting paid to do. no one expects her to read every single bullet ! thats what hold us up also... all i need for her to do is summarize the powerpoint, and allow us to ask questions about each powerpoint. if thats the case instructors should just give us powerpoints before the exam and then test us on it.... but no they wouldn't do that would they ? they told us that they will not give out powerpoints before classes to give us an excuse not to come... so whats the point of coming to class if you aren't even going to go over the objectives and powerpoints ?

I tell you all, online lectures are the way to go. I never ever had an instructor give a decent well organized lecture. Online, Televised, I don`t care. Before there was online programming I was completing an RN-BSN. Some courses were recorded and i developed the habit of ignoring the physical courses and using the televised only. MY SECRET WEAPON: the fast forward button. Every single 50 minute lecture was cut down by 15 to 20 minutes. No kidding. i cut out the wasted time, stupid questions, students interupting, instructor discussing some off subject business issue. No course ever began until 10 minutes into the class time.

i guess all we are here for is to read ..since none of us can really relate

Since I have no idea how your instructor relates the stories to the powerpoint, which should correlate with the reading, all I can say is to just try to get through it. Yes, we all pay alot to learn, but most of the learning we get is from the readings. Most of us have had the same frustration at least once, but unless your the one wanting to confront her and hope she'll change, there's not much you can do except self teach yourself. I agree with op regarding online lectures (love em), but I also know it's not an option for many students. It stinks, but if you can't ask questions because she's that much off topic, then do have to attend? Maybe you'd be much better off if you take that lecture time to tear the readings apart. Again, I wish you the best of luck!

If you don't like her teaching style, take a seat in the back and study study study during her "outta hand" lectures.

I guess I have a difference of opinion on this subject. I don't think instructors are there to go over everything that may be on an exam...that's what studying is for. I didn't expect to be spoon-fed information so I could spit it out for a grade. EVERYTHING in nursing school is important to know..not just what makes it to a test.

ask your questions at the next class meeting or see the instructor during their office hours.

you are great at coming up with excuses.

I had a professor for psy that had a habit of telling a lot of stories. And some students took advantage of that and would ask stupid questions just so she would get off track. (not sure what they were thinking because even if we hadn't went over it it was still on the test!)

After the 1st test, i realized what kind of instructor she was. I got to know what i should read for the test. I recommend reading everything, cause you never know. It's better to be overprepared than underprepared.

I understand your frustration, but i doubt that anything you would say to your instructor will change her, and could actually backfire and get you put on her s*** list.

As for the instructor that was gonna talk to your instructor- for all you know they could be best friends! And even if they aren't, when the substitute tells your teacher that there had been complaints from your class, i'm sure your instructor is gonna try to figure out who is criticizing her teaching style behind her back! And even if the instructor really did want to help, now she will probably view you as a complainer, or a gossip.

Never speak ill of anyone where you could be overheard!! Anyone could have heard you and i'm sure a class suck up would love to score points with your instructor by snitching that you think she has a big mouth!

I'm not trying to criticize- i'm speaking from expirience and trying to keep you from making the misstep that i made!

Good luck in your class and in school:nuke:

Once again I DONT expect for her to go over anything thats going to be on the test. I expect for her to do her job and LECTURE us. Thats it ! I study and read I know what my responsibilities are as a student, she clearly doesn't know what hers are as an INSTRUCTOR ! :angryfire
