Hospitals will begin sending coronavirus patient information to the Department of Health and Human Services directly, not the Centers for Disease Control, under new instructions from the Trump administration.

The move will take effect on Wednesday, according to a new guidance and FAQ document for hospitals and clinical labs quietly posted on the HHS website....

He's trying to cut out the CDC because they're not all gung ho about sending our children back to school. Why change up now if it's innocent? The WHO is also being cut out by the Trump admin. Dr. Fauci is also being slandered because he disagreed. I just don't trust this administration. Even Betsy Devos couldn't give a clear answer and kept talking in circles.

Can he actually do that, without the Congress approval?? Is he really that crazy? How is the CDC supposed to deal with this pandemic if they are even deprived of the data?what is next, get rid of the CDC?

He should just go play golf for the next 5 months and stop endangering our lives.

How do you know the CDC will be deprived of the data? I think the reason for the change is what is important. Most likely CDC does not have the resources that HHS has. The PDF states that it is to streamline access and prevent duplication.

He's trying to cut the CDC because he has loyalists at HSS , naturally that know nothing at all about infectious disease , statistics, process engineering nor anything else essential that the CDC does. I've no doubt will do whatever Trump demands. And that's leaving aside HHS is not the org chock full of expertise on infectious disease management. The CDC is.

What could go wrong...

this is ridiculous.

The CDC is chock full of infectious disease experts, PHD's, statisticians, public health experts and the like. HHS is an administrative wing largely managing Medicare /Medicaid policy.

HHS is "led" by two Trump loyalists that know nothing about any of this. The ONLY reason for this would be political manipulation at the expense of the citizenry.

Obviously he can do whatever he wants without consequence . He's been able to have AG Barr gut the Mueller report, openly solicity f oreign interference in US elections, gut cybersecurity of our elections, free career criminal thugs like Roger Stone, crash the economy, and bungle the Covid response to the point of manslaughter and still not be held accountable by wimpy Senate Republicans and his vile base.
