Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.
Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....
I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future.
Hello, I am moving to Reidsville in approx 6-8 weeks. I have been looking at Moses Cone and Wake for a job. I am nervous. The pay rate is less than I am making now, but coming from NJ I expected that. Does anyone have any input to the area. Reidsville is in Rockinham county , approx 20 from Greensboro?

Welcome to the area. I live in Greensboro pretty close to Moses Cone. Most of my neighbors work at Moses Cone and seem to like it. I also understand that High Point Hospital is a very good place to work. It's a little further from Reidsville than Moses Cone is.
Hey there!
My hubby and I moved to Greenville in June from St. Catharines, ON Canada. I just started at PCMH this week in L&D. So far we are enjoying Eastern NC. Spent lots of time at the beach this summer, went sailing with some friends, and found a great church. It sure is different down here in "the south"! I don't think we have picked up the accent YET. I heard that there are a lot of Canadian RNs down here, and hopefully I can hook up with them to celebrate some holidays (my hubby's an American). The hardest part about being down here so far away from the Great White North is... not having my Tim Horton's! This city could REALLY use one (or two). Luckily I stocked up before we moved. LOL.
Canadian RNs at PCMH, feel free to message me. We can get together for Tim's at our place!

It has taken me 6 months to get some employment - and I have 23 years experience. My largest hurdle is that I can't do direct patient care due to a injured and fragile back. But if you can do direct patient care I'd suggest starting out in an acute care facility and building community contacts and local resume/references that way.... because the second largest hurdle has been not having local resume/references .... the smaller the community the more important that is

LOL that was funny I haven't had Tim Hortons since I was 13!!! That was 10 yrs ago. Its been 10 yrs since I've been back to Toronto (CANADIAN GIRL HERE!). Ummm...Tim Hortons is good...but Krispy Kreme is also great as long as its hot. The thing I miss the most is Swiss Chalet...Boston Market is nothing compared to that. Oh yea Chinatown in Toronto and the Caribana (Biggest Street Festival in North America)...I can smell the Carribean food...ahhh drooling lol.
I'm currently in NC at Fayetteville. I am one class away from having my pre-req's done. I am currently waiting from replies to a couple of schools.
Hi,
You are not getting paid that much? Then don't come to Asheville...the pay is much lower here than all the other hospital's in NC I have checked out.
I am considering moving to Concord. Don't know if I want to lose my seniority...but the money thing is a HUGE PULL....Good luck but steer clear of the mountains b/c I don't think you would get a larger salary...just a larger cost of living.

Hello folks, am in columbia, sc, getting ready to move to fort mill to enter CPCC in charlotte to pusue rn. started a long time ago, but stopped to raise family, got that done, was in first semester clinicals when way too many things struck, had to drop. i then realized that i'd rather go w/original plan & school-work in charlotte. added courses needed for cpcc, finishing cna in order to work-qualify and need ALL hints & info on things to consider or ignore as i finish my school work load. remember that things trivial to you may be very important to me. thanks beforehand all of you......
