Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.
Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....
I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future.
I'm an RN in PACU working in winston salem. Have been a nurse for 3 years, previously in general surgery. Love my job. Look forward to hearing from everyone. Recently got married with a 1 year anniversary coming up. My wife and I will be spending our anniversary on a med. missionary trip to the Dominican Republic. Can't wait!
Hello to everyone. I can't believe I just found this website! How did it escape me? Anyway, Holly here, in the big city of Sparta (NW NC). Think of this as Christmas Tree land. I am an OR/OPD/PACU/Endoscopy/Pre-op nurse. I started at Duke in 1987 (after a short stint on the floor at the VA in Durham) and have loved the OR ever since. Ever since watching MASH as a kid I wanted to be a surgical nurse. Started my career as an LPN, then RN-ADN, and graduated last year with my BSN from WSSU. (Whew, am I glad that's over!)
Currently, I am helping to spearhead electronic charting at our little facility. Who has some input for me? Anyone use CPSI? I think I used up what few brain cells I had left last year in school and I am finding organization on the computer not as efficient as my trusty old scrap papers. Great to meet you guys and I look forward to many conversations once I get my feet wet.
Oh, one more thing. I really, really like
Just hang in there. I took all of my prereq's at GTCC and really enjoyed it. Their nursing program has the reputation of being one of the toughest in the area. I heard that a new A&P instructor was told to make her class as difficult as possible. That being said, GTCC nursing grads have the reputations of being some of the best around.
Hello. I know I'm dating my self, but I was a member of the first graduating class (LPN) the year GTCC attained community college status....1984. Before this the school was known as Guilford Technical Institute. Good luck and best wishes!
Hi everyone!I moved to NC from Fl. in Nov. I unfortunately suffered a back injury in 2001 & have been out of work since.Following 2 back surgeries (one failure the second ok) I don't believe I can do clinical nursing any longer, but want to return to some kind of nsg. I am an LPN for 20yrs, injured 6mos before completing my RN program. I am now 57 & "NO" I am not going back to school ! anyone have an opinion as to what I can do in NC. I miss nursing with all my heart. Thanks!
I am in quite the same predicament, been an RN for 23 years and due to severe back injury am unable to do direct patient care or accept a position, such as in nursing administration, where I might be reasonable expected to take up the slack when they are short staffed, and thus place my self, the clients and staff in an untenable position.
I've considered and tried to locate QA/QI positions and the like but the internal structure of medical providers in my area seem to not include specific departments or individuals who cover these positions full time.
I would be most cheerfully grateful for any suggestions, all of which will be earnestly entertained, as to some ideas or directions that I have overlooked!
Sincerely,
Henaynei

Hellooooo to everyone,
I will be starting my second semester in the ADN program at Halifax Community College. I think I have finally gotten over my nursing school jitters.
I have been a CNA for 10 years now, I don't know how I mad it in this field
; but I truly enjoy my work. My three kids and husband really keep me on my toes. It has been really hard workin, moming, being a wife, but I know that the reward is bigger than the struggle.
Good luck to all the Student Nurses!!!!!!:monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!!!
