North Carolina Roll Call

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Hi all, Im Jackie and I live in Charlotte, NC. I've been a nurse for almost 3 years now. Right now I work post partum but I'm looking into moving to a cardiac unit. I think that maybe somewhere in the very distant future I'd like to be a CRNA or CNS. Anyone else with the same interests, I'd love to here your advice on career paths to reach these goals. To everyone else, I hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather we are having. On your day off, go out and feel the sun on your shoulders. :coollook:

Hi, Jackie!

I live in Granville County. Just outside of Durham. I have applied to LU online Masters program as road to CNS or Unit Based Educator postions. Hope to start this summer. Should hear anyday now.

I live in Winston-Salem and I have been a nurse for about 5 years. I have worked at the same hospital since obtaining my RN license and I have Trauma, CT Surgery, and MedSurg experience. I currently work on a Cardiovascular/Family Practice unit where we get roll over from Trauma, ENT, and MedSurg. I am going to school at UNC-Greensboro where I plan to enter the Adult/Gerontological NP program in the fall. I passed up an opportunity to be the UBE on my floor so I could, instead, work every weekend in order to pursue my educational goals.....I hope all works out because I know I have a tough road ahead of me. By the way, I am new to the forum and posted a question in the Advanced Nurses forum the other day and notice no one has posted a reply but I have had several views....is that normal?

Hello all. I am a brand new RN. I was lucky enough to get hired on a telemetry floor where I have worked for almost 3 months. I am still on orientation to the unit but have a "full pateint" load of 6 patients.

I currently live and work in NJ and I make $24/hour. However, my wife and I will be visiting the Raleigh/Durham area on Monday! We are serioulsy thinking of leaving NJ and moving to NC. IS Duke University Hospital a good place to work?? We have a 4 year old and are thinking that the tuition grant program they offer would be a good deal for us(no college expenses to us).

I have head that Duke does not pay the best compared to other area hospitals. Is this true? I would consider agency/travel nursing in order to make more money, but I also need family health coverage.

I would appreciate any help/feedback. This seems like an excellent website! Thank you.

How do you like PCMH? Just moved here from Canada and got a house in Winterville. Would like any info about the area and the hospital.

Thanks

Hi I'm new to the forum. Hello everyone. I'm looking to relocate from California to Charlotte. Originally I was an airforce brat so I'm still looking for a homebase for myself. I probably won't be able to move for another year but I was wondering if anyone could help me with a few answers. Nurse to patient Ratio's? Salary Ranges? For a Tele or Med/Sur nurse? Also anything about Charlotte I'm planning to visit before moving? How much snow in winter? How hot in the Summer? All the research I've done so far sounds really great as far as what the city has to offer. Thank you.

Hey everybody...

Rollcall here. Living in Charlotte for nine months, RN. CMC employee. Interviewing (internally) Monday for L&D. Wondering....

What do (read: Yankee) transplants to Charlotte need to know/do/understand...for the unit relationships? pt care/social? Really would like to get this thing closer to right than not.;)

Learning everday I am. When in Rome do as the Romans do is the rule. Any feedback for me?

I'm a native!! I live in Hillsborough, NC which is just west of Durham. After a career in Corporate America I've decided I need to do work that's good for my soul. I'm attending DTCC for my ADN. After that I'd like to apply to UNC-CH for their RN-BSN program. Can't wait!!

My goal is to become a Forensic Nurse. I have a long row to hoe in order to get there but I'm excited about my journey.

How about you??

Hi! I also just finished the NA1 class last night. We also are the in the first group that must take the state test somewhere other than where we attended class. We have heard scary stories of the skills testing and the very small reasons students are failing. Examples, not making eye contact! Good luck!

Hey guys, I live in the Craven County area and work in Greenville on a MedSurg unit. I've been a nurse for 3 years and spent 10+ years as a CNA. I have more kids and animals than a person has a right to have
