  1. I've searched the career advice section, and there really aren't many responses on that portion. I'm updating my resume. There is a 2 year span of unemployment. My husband transferred to another state for his job and we decided for me to stay at home since we had a younger child and knew no one at the time to help with him. I'm now working agency and the hours are just too sporadic with cancellations. How do I address the unemployed time on my resume. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
  2. I was a CNA before nursing school. Honestly, I don't know of anything to really prepare yourself as this is an entry level position unless your local hospital has 'transporters'. Then, what you mainly do is move patients from the ER to the floors or transport between floors. I did find this website. I do not know the cost. http://www.medical-billing-certificates.com/?key=go_medical_terminology&v=google&a=allied%40educationdynamics.com&c=medical_terminology_cert&cat=medical_terminology&mt=Content&ad=1707405289&est=medical%20terminology%20course&drop_id=medical%20billing Good luck!
  3. Baptist was hiring new grads. They have a great orientation/preceptor program. An added plus is that it is a teaching facility. Not to take away from Novant facilities, they are good too. It's just that you would probably have a better chance of being hired at Baptist. Call their Nurse Recruiter and talk to them.
  4. Another plus is that you always have someone there that you don't mind calling @ 0300 for something petty, but has to have a MD order.
  5. Thomasville as far as I know is not really hiring for nursing right now. Matter of fact, the Piedmont area Novant hospitals have really slowed with hiring and their use of agency staffing.
  6. The late fee runs April 1-June30, which is $75. After that, your license lapses. http://sos.georgia.gov/acrobat/PLB/13%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf
  7. I got my first job 4 weeks after passing NCLEX. I applied in person and followed up with a phone call 1 week later. I'm not sure online resume posting is the way to go right now from everything I've been reading lately. If I were looking for a job right now, I believe I would go straight to the source and make sure you follow up with them. Good luck!
  8. I have a diploma. I guess it depends on what state that you are in. But in the end, yes, all that matters is that you're a LPN and are licensed by your state BON.
  9. I now live in NC due to my husband transferring. I don't know how much experience you have and any 'stereotypes' you've had to deal with, but the Medical Center floor I worked on, I was considered a 'nurse' just like all there. Only thing we couldn't do was manage cardiac drips and initiate a care plan. Oconee is also very LPN friendly. Good luck. Post on this thread if you find a job. Hope this info helps you out.
  10. There is also Central State Hospital in Milledgeville that uses lots of LPN's if you don't mind psych or prison nursing.
  11. That is where I worked when living there. The Medical Center does hire LPN's. However, you may want to call their Human Resources. Recently they have laid off management and cut back on the use of agency nurses. Oconee Regional Hospital in Milledgeville also hires LPN's. It's a small community hospital, but they do have med/surg, mother/baby, SNF, and an ER in which LPN's were able to work. At least they did when I did clinicals there. You may also want to think about 'agency' work if immediate benefits aren't a factor. I do know that MSN contracts with Coliseum Hospital and ATC contracts with Oconee.
  12. To help you out better, what area are you in?
  13. Whatever you decide, good luck. I'm planning to start FTCC in the spring for the bridge program. If nothing else, you can work the 6 months and by the time the winter quarte rolls around again, you'll have it!
  14. I've been a nurse for 6 years now. I work for Nursefinders. Some homecare agencies will hire new grads, but I do know that at Nursefinders here, you must have 1 year experience. Not only that, you want some experience under your belt so you feel secure enough to handle most whatever crisis your going to come across without having to hunt down a 'staff' nurse. That, and the fact that if you are constantly asking questions about your judgement calls, staff at the facility will consider you more of a hindrance than a help. And believe me, word will get around if you aren't confident enough with your skills.
