How do I enter lapse?
I've searched the career advice section, and there really aren't many responses on that portion. I'm updating my resume. There is a 2 year span of unemployment. My husband transferred to another state for his job and we decided for me to stay at home since we had a younger child and knew no one at the time to help with him. I'm now working agency and the hours are just too sporadic with cancellations. How do I address the unemployed time on my resume. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

CNA student, please give advice for hospital employment
I was a CNA before nursing school. Honestly, I don't know of anything to really prepare yourself as this is an entry level position unless your local hospital has 'transporters'. Then, what you mainly do is move patients from the ER to the floors or transport between floors. I did find this website. I do not know the cost. http://www.medical-billing-certificates.com/?key=go_medical_terminology&v=google&a=allied%40educationdynamics.com&c=medical_terminology_cert&cat=medical_terminology&mt=Content&ad=1707405289&est=medical%20terminology%20course&drop_id=medical%20billing Good luck!

Open House at TMC - Novant - Did anyone go?
Best of Luck!

Open House at TMC - Novant - Did anyone go?
Baptist was hiring new grads. They have a great orientation/preceptor program. An added plus is that it is a teaching facility. Not to take away from Novant facilities, they are good too. It's just that you would probably have a better chance of being hired at Baptist. Call their Nurse Recruiter and talk to them.

Teaching Hospital vs. Non-teaching
Another plus is that you always have someone there that you don't mind calling @ 0300 for something petty, but has to have a MD order.

Open House at TMC - Novant - Did anyone go?
Thomasville as far as I know is not really hiring for nursing right now. Matter of fact, the Piedmont area Novant hospitals have really slowed with hiring and their use of agency staffing.

The late fee runs April 1-June30, which is $75. After that, your license lapses. http://sos.georgia.gov/acrobat/PLB/13%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf

NEW LPN....needs help with Job questions
I got my first job 4 weeks after passing NCLEX. I applied in person and followed up with a phone call 1 week later. I'm not sure online resume posting is the way to go right now from everything I've been reading lately. If I were looking for a job right now, I believe I would go straight to the source and make sure you follow up with them. Good luck!

LPNs with a Diploma vs LPNs with an Associate's Degree
I have a diploma. I guess it depends on what state that you are in. But in the end, yes, all that matters is that you're a LPN and are licensed by your state BON.

I'm new to Georgia
I now live in NC due to my husband transferring. I don't know how much experience you have and any 'stereotypes' you've had to deal with, but the Medical Center floor I worked on, I was considered a 'nurse' just like all there. Only thing we couldn't do was manage cardiac drips and initiate a care plan. Oconee is also very LPN friendly. Good luck. Post on this thread if you find a job. Hope this info helps you out.

I'm new to Georgia
There is also Central State Hospital in Milledgeville that uses lots of LPN's if you don't mind psych or prison nursing.

I'm new to Georgia
That is where I worked when living there. The Medical Center does hire LPN's. However, you may want to call their Human Resources. Recently they have laid off management and cut back on the use of agency nurses. Oconee Regional Hospital in Milledgeville also hires LPN's. It's a small community hospital, but they do have med/surg, mother/baby, SNF, and an ER in which LPN's were able to work. At least they did when I did clinicals there. You may also want to think about 'agency' work if immediate benefits aren't a factor. I do know that MSN contracts with Coliseum Hospital and ATC contracts with Oconee.

LPN to RN Bridge in North Carolina
Whatever you decide, good luck. I'm planning to start FTCC in the spring for the bridge program. If nothing else, you can work the 6 months and by the time the winter quarte rolls around again, you'll have it!

per diem
I've been a nurse for 6 years now. I work for Nursefinders. Some homecare agencies will hire new grads, but I do know that at Nursefinders here, you must have 1 year experience. Not only that, you want some experience under your belt so you feel secure enough to handle most whatever crisis your going to come across without having to hunt down a 'staff' nurse. That, and the fact that if you are constantly asking questions about your judgement calls, staff at the facility will consider you more of a hindrance than a help. And believe me, word will get around if you aren't confident enough with your skills.

Any employees of High Point Regional??
I'm sorry, didn't mean to depress you. HPC might be a great place to work now. I just know the approximately 10 nurses I've talked to left when their contract was up because there wasn't enough autonomy. Three have said that when things were running smooth, it was fine. But, anything that went wrong on your shift, it was all 'your' doing. I would still talk to them and see what they say. I'm not sure how Rowan Regional Medical Center is, but that is in Salisbury and it is owned by Novant Health. I do staffing agency work at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston, which is Novant owned, and the employees there seem basically happy. Just your everyday gripes that you hear anywhere . I really enjoy working there. So, that may be an option for you. I believe the Rowan is comparable in size to HPU.

What *other* jobs are LVN's qualified for?
exactly as i said, if it is like my surrounding states, and apparently western states aren't. in the state of nc and ga, you have to be certified as a ma to work as one. but like you, i would hate to take the pay cut. but, if there are no jobs, a pay cut is better than zero pay.
-
per diem
Usually @ least $10 more per hour. I work per diem @ the local hospital and make $15 more per hour than their staff LPN's, that's not including extra shiftdiff and weekend diff.

I Need Help----what Should I Do?
If that is stressful to you, then being an RN isn't your answer either, because it is basically the same. You should look at your local community college and see what programs that they offer in allied health. Good luck!

What *other* jobs are LVN's qualified for?
If California is like the states in this area, you cannot work as a phlebotomist or medical assistant. They each have their own training and certifications and also their own board exams. Not only that, even if you could find someone to hire you as a medical assistant, you are still an LVN and ultimately, responsible as an LVN as far as the scope of practice. Veterinarians do hire nurses and train. I work with a nurse who's full time job is drawing labs, injections and assessments of the animals.

Any employees of High Point Regional??
Most facilities care about the patients, because that is where the money comes from. As far as caring about the employees, you may want to add a few more options to your list. I do not work there, nor have I ever. But, I have spoken to multiple nurses that have left HPR because they felt that they were not a valuable member of the medical team.

LPN to RN Bridge in North Carolina
I am not sure what area you are in, but in the Triad area, Forsyth Tech has a bridge program where you do not have to be employed. Davidson Community College at one time required that you were. Search your local community college websites. Under their 'bridge' requirements, it will state whether or not you have to be employed as an LPN.

ACLS certification
Probably not the cheapest way, but a 'legit' way, contact your local American Heart Assoc. They offer the classes. Also, a local teaching hospital here offers ACLS certs, you just have to buy and read the book before attending the class. You might want to check your local tech school also. Many tech schools offer ACLS classes throughout the year. Good Luck.

Bayada Nurses pay rate
If you don't mind one on one, with quite sick patients many times, it might be right for you. But, that isn't my cup of tea. If I'm going to have someone go bad, I want the code team within close reach.:D I've also had contact with many that complain about the relief nurse not arriving on time often. Have you thought of agencies that contract with hospitals? The ones in this area usually pay more than the home care agencies. As far as the company itself, I didn't go to work for them based upon those reasons, so I couldn't give you an experienced answer. Hope you find something that works for you.

Second guessing
When you catch yourself reading more into it than necessary, glance up and re-read. My instructors always told us to never answer more than the question is asking. If they wanted you to read more into the question and elaborate, it would be essay questions, not multiple choice. Also, the others are right, use your Saunders cd or whatever guide you choose to use. That should be a tremendous help for you. I used mine at least 30 minutes a day the last semester of school. See if your college has classes or something along that line for test anxiety. I've been to 2 community colleges in 2 states and both had a 4 hour session on test anxiety and how to avoid it. Talk with a school counselor and they should be able to lead you in the right direction. Best of luck to you.
