North Carolina Roll Call

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Hello from Chapel Hill,

Currently working as an RN in psychiatry and love it. I don't love the pay or the time clock though! Isn't there anything we can do about this in NC?

Nice to meet you all. Please feel free to drop me a line.

Hey Javahh67 I'm curious about the pay at Chapel Hill. I will be attending nursing school in durham and I'm interested in working at Chapel Hill. Thanks alot.

I am TJ from GSB, NC new to the site and I love it! I will be a nursing student at GTCC in Jamestown ,NC I am very excited and nervous so please everyone pray for me and I will make it through this year.

Happy to see someone from GSB on this site. I was attending GTCC but am transferring to FTCC in August for the LPN program. FTCC will accept 163 for the LPN program so I've decided to go this route first. I still need A&P II and PSY 241 for the RN program. After LPN, I'll take those 2 courses then do the RN bridge program.

Wonder if we took any classes together? Who did you have for A&P I? I had a wonderful instructor. Hopefully she'll be teaching A&P II by the time I take I'm ready for it. Anyway, good luck and hang in there. You know GTCC is a good school but I hear the nursing program is real tough.

Instructor's personal name removed from post - violation of privacy. Please do not refer to your instructors by name. Thank you...

Thanks Henaynei, I really needed that I am so nervous but I can only do my best and being here in the chat will help me

Being a CNA for so long should really help. I just finished my CNA class and am waiting to take my test. The state just changed the way they are doing the CNA testing. My class is one of the first classes to be tested this way.

Specializes in CLNC, numerous fields, Supervision.

in what way has the testing changed? how do they test now? :)

The testing is no longer done by or at the school. They have certain testing centers and you have to send away for an appt. after you finish and pass the class. You pick a couple of testing sites and then they set up an appt. for you. They pick 5 skills for you. First they give you the written test as always , then you have to perform the 5 skills in 30 minutes. If you miss any steps, or if you miss saying anything in bold, you fail. You can't ask any questions of the evaluator after you begin your skills.

A friend of mine took her test last week and passed it. They gave her skills that she was comfortable with and she passed. Of course it depends on how tough your evaluator is. My friend also goes to GTCC and will be taking A&P II in August.

wow - that sounds like a testing system designed to not favor those who are good at multiple choice or penalize those who aren't - knowing that task of the certifying body is to ensure that those with certification possess the knowledge and skills that cert supposes - and knowing that you are likely to care as much about ensuring that the public served by knowledgeable and skilled caregivers as the system is - I'm sure you will do well :)

Sorry I wasn't clear but it's the skills part that you can easily fail. I don't know if the written is any different.

Hi everyone. I am starting an ADN program at Alamance Community College in Burlington, N.C. I graduated years ago from Pfeiffer University with a B.A. in English, but always wanted to be a nurse. I am so excited and terrified!

hi I am currently from Georgia but livein Charlotte NC. I am a pre-nursing student entering Nursing school to acheive my BSN in Fall 2007. I have no desire for bedside nursing , but i know I have to go that route for a little while and then go to grad school to become an FNP and opening my own clinic in the future.
