i know i am a tad late but hopefully i can help others from going though the same hardships that had to endure by dealing with the neslp scholarship. the best advice i can give anyone about this scholarship is to do not take it! go to the bank and take a second mortgage out on your home before taking this. i took this scholarship at the advice of the dean of the allied health department for my school. i never asked for it, but was told it was basically free money and all i had to do was work in the state after i graduate. i was having financial difficulties at the time so i jumped at the chance to get some extra cash. second semester i had some family health problems and as a result i failed spring semester. two days later i contacted neslp about repayment because at that time i had the money to pay them back in full. i was told there was 2 forms to fill out and that as long as i was still enrolled in school and got those forms filled out i would not have to repay. i had the forms filled out by my schools fin aid advisor. it was two months before i heard anything from neslp. i get the same forms in the mail again telling me that since i was dropped from the program i needed to gt them filled out. i took them to the dean of student services this time and had them filled out. two weeks later i was denied my request to postpone repayment because of my enrollment status. i was livid at that point so i called and was told that i had to be enrolled full time over the summer semester. when i asked the lady i talked to in the beginning she told me there was no requirement other than i needed to be enrolled. i was then told that if i enroll full time in the fall i could avoid repayment. however, i am auditing a nur class which doesn't count toward enrollment. that left me with no way avoid repayment. now i am left having to make payments because i no longer have the extra cash and i possibly will not be able to afford next semester because i have to pay this debt that if someone had just told me the truth about from the beginning i could have avoided. my entire dealings with the ppl who are in charge of neslp have given me the impression that the organization is highly unorganized. i have since learned from some people who took this scholarship that setting up work repayment after graduation is just as difficult and confusing.
