Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.
Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....
I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future.
Hello, I live in Charlotte, born and raised.....wouldn't trade it for the world. ...I graduated LPN school at ECPI in June 2006....I am currently studying for the NCLEX that I plan to take the second week in August .....my RN classes start in August. Anyone else out there? Where are you from and what work do you do and where do you work....:monkeydance:
I am in Charlotte NC and love it....

Hang in there TJ - it is a sometimes bumpy but exhilarating road on which you embark - if you can stay in the buggy through the completion of your schooling you will be well seated to weather the various climactic variations you will encounter as you set out in your career - you are surrounded by a great cloud of those who have traveled the same or similar path and their encouragement goes before :)
in an allegorical mood this morning :)
G-d bless you and I'll be praying for you :)

Remember that your cost of living is tremendously higher in California than here. I have a friend that just moved here from Cali and she sold her 3 bedroom/2bath 1500 sq foot house for $275,000. Here she bought a 3bed/2bath with 1900 sq feet with an unfinished basement for $148,000. $18/hr is about right for the southeast for new hires. However, your university hospitals don't seem to pay as much as your non-teaching. If your husand has health insurance with his job, maybe you would be better off with agency until you can get a feel for the hospitals in the area. :) And yes, if bene's are not a problem for you, agency pays usually at least $10/hr more. However, your new grad status will probably not allow you to work for an agency right now. They want at least a minimum of 1 year med/surg experience usually and understandably.
