New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

good morning peeps. I lodged my application to WA last may

heres my time frame

june 3 received an email from them about notification that they received my documents

june 17 received an email that they are in receipt of an application from me

its now august 10 and i havent heard from them...

im getting worried

Ive read that second coursers have to wait longer. IM a shiftee, I spend 3 semesters studying psychology and then shifted to nursing... do you think that this is one of the reasons for the delay?

I dont know if i start to bug the person in charge with my application about its status.

Pray for me.

thanks

guys,

it´s almost 9:30 pm in brazil and before going to bed i decided to check my mail for any news (since i havent been sleeping for 2 days)....as soon as i opened my inbox i received the most amazing new ever:

thank you for your patience in regards to this matter.

i wish to advise that you were misinformed in regards to your documentation. your fedex package was received by ahpra and as there has been a hold up in processing this has caused some delays in our processes.

please be advised that your application will be made a priority to be processed and an assessing officer will contact you in due course to advise accordingly.

once again, i apologise for any stress or frustration the misleading information has caused.

please do not hesitate to contact us on +61 3 8708 9001 between 09:00am – 05:00pm australian eastern standard time or at [email protected] for any further assistance.

Good news NurseNathalie

Hi Bob! im actually contemplating now as to which pathway will i choose, the uncertain 3months bridging program(13k aud @IHNA) or the 1 year program at ECU or Murdoch (15k aud @ Murdoch) uni in Perth since i have a relative there so i can save on accommodation. Anyways, if I take the 3months bridging, then definitely i will be in a business short stay visa, then what if after my bridging program I cant find an employer who will sponsor for my work visa? Of course i"ll head back to the phils since my visa wont allow me to stay further in oz, i"ll be drowned in debt eventually since i'll loan some amount to finance my BP. So chances would be slim....

But if i'll take the other route , the 1year RN conversion program, then i'll be in a student visa which will allow me to take part time job as carer in nsg homes, of which can somehow suffice my expenses, and somehow the nsg home i'll be working part time may absorb and sponsor me for an RN position after commencing my RN conversion course. Or at least, with my 1year stay in OZ, it would be easy for me then to scout for job postings sponsoring RN for work visa. Time is running out so I have to decide asap. help please....

Murdoch is 24K I think not 15K... the 15k is only for 24 units. The Conversion Program would require you 36 units. Please check again. :)

how can this be done? can this "extension" be requested during application of visa?

During your visa application you have to tick the portion where it asks you if you intend to have multiple travels and for what reason (you have to state your reason). You simply cannot request for extension at the initial application stage... Whatever is the result of the Immigration Officer whether you tick that box or not is final as he will base his decision on other factors also like your finances and capacity to stay in Australia.

There are 456 Visas with a condition of "no further stay" so definitely you cannot apply for any other visa while in Australia.

I suggest you don't bring in your family first. I left my family behind as well to go for the 2 months program in CoN. Doing the shorter program is way more practical than doing a 1 year conversion program that is far more expensive notwithstanding the fact that you have to support and sustain yourself for one year. Having part-time jobs is not an alternative solution as the cost of living is expensive. On a student visa remember you are only allowed to work 20 hours a week. Think about the weekly rentals, utilities, phone/internet, food, fare, etc. After you do the 2 or 3 months program your registration will follow next and you can start looking for jobs... why wait for 1 year? As time passes more and more nurses plunge to Australia or Canada... you wouldn't want to fall last in line won't you?

Just my 2 cents :)

hi miks103, i have sent you a PM. :)

Oh my!!! ETEA's tuition fee for the BP is already Aus$14k. That's what's in their application form now. I still don't know if I can afford it.

la trobe has 2 intake per year, January/May pls. to inform they will increase 7% of course fee for 2012

pick a cheaper school that offers bridging course
