Need RN credits transfer help so badly to a college that will accept them.

Hi all,

I was in an RN program in MN I had only 2 classes left to graduate until recently but had a family issue that affected my grades and failed.So now I can not continue in that college any more.I have done Nursing fundamentals, Med-surg 1 & 2,Mental health, Maternal health & Peds RN level.I can not imagine all those credits that I completed successfully getting As & Bs going to waste with all the work I have put in to it.

Please does any one know a college I can transfer to complete the RN.I hear there are colleges in Delaware & Maryland any one knows their names,or anywhere else in the states.If you know that will safe me the heartache and confusion I can not imagine starting all over gain with Nursing school.

I am willing to even test out with LPN if there is a state that allows that.Please help anyone.

I am confused. What kind of school is this? i.e. Public, Private, Non profit, for profit?

I've never heard of a school that will accept those kinds of transfers. You are likely stuck having to repeat everything from scratch. Also, having failed out of a program will make it harder to get into another program. You'll usually have to submit a statement for why you didn't complete the program.

I would talk to your current school and see if you can retake the class. Most schools allow a repeat of one class. It is very difficult to transfer nursing classes unfortunately.

Any private or Public college will be fine but mostly public is preferable if you know any.

I'm also in MN and wonder what happened when you spoke the the school you failed out of? Did you ask them if you could retake the class you failed? I see you were looking to take your LPN since you completed some RN courses, but the MN BON doesn't allow that so I'm not sure if you can cross state lines to take the NCLEX-PN as you would be registered under the MN BON, right?

I think, if you haven't already, speak to your school and see if you can retake those courses. The school I went to allowed us to "resequence" into a class once. There are no local schools that will accept other school's actual RN classes since they all differ.

just in case you are not aware: "transfer" can mean the course is acceptable as credit in the new program, but does not necessarily mean it applies to your degree. They may be considered acceptable only as electives. Make sure you understand the difference and are prepared to ask if the credits count towards a degree.

I don't think they would listen.My college is very strict & this has happened to so many students before me.I had to withdraw earlier in the program mid semester and that was considered a fail so no more than one failure,that's why I need to look for a college so that those credits will not go to waste.Hopefully I will find one in MN or out of state.

I can cross state line too if I found a school that would allow me to take the Nclex-PN then transition to RN after that.Ill keep looking.

I think if a college accepts nursing transferred credits they evaluate them to see if they are equivalent to their own program credits.Unless there is someone who had their credits accepted it is hard to know-the reason I posted the question here to see other people's experiences.

I believe that Excelsior College looks at cases like yours on a case by case basis in regards to thier RN program. As for testing for your lpn license it may be possible here in CA. CA has an option to test for your lvn licensure based on equivalent education. They do require a 54 hour pharmacology course, however there are many options to complete this including several stand alone online courses with open enrollment. Good luck

Not anymore. The OP would not be eligible for Excelsior as they failed a class. Those who completed 50% or more of an RN program including clinical & theory in all required areas, must be in good academic standing with c or better , not dismissed or failed out of the program, and presently working in a healthcare setting.
