I almost fell off the sofa this weekend when I saw this commercial. What are your thoughts?

I'm not sure what to think about this...I'd rather have a publicly advertised site to check out a physician, surgeon, or dentist rather than a nurse.
* Note my sarcasm* Since everyone is now encouraged to check out nurses, how about adding on to the site to check out a police officer, teacher, real estate agent, clergy, child care provider, plumber, cosmetologist , architect, bus driver and a pilot too?

Huh. While I certainly understand every person's right to know that the people providing their medical care is appropriately licensed, I'm really not sure what I think about the commercial. I lean towards being a bit offended and saddened that it seems NOBODY has nurses' backs anymore.

OMG that's why I can never get anyone at the board on the phone!!! They were all practicing for roles in that commercial, because I doubt nurses were lining up for that job.

Doesn't your employer do that for the public BEFORE you are even hired in a position?? Why is that suddenly not enough?? A check of my license and a criminal backround check to satisfy employment requirements should be enough.
If a patient, family or visitor had a legit complaint aren't there people to report you to at your place of employment? I know there is in Hick Town IN.
Just more poohey on our already loaded plates to worry about.

EXACTLY! OUTRAGEOUS! You'd NEVER seen national council of medical boards advertising. People know how to complain without the advertisement encouraging it.

This ad is so wrong. I know a good male ED RN with 16 yrs experience who had a spotless record. He had a bogus BON complaint filed against him by a drunk combative patient. (Long story short, this RN held the patient back because he was swinging and punching a staff member. A newbie nurse misinterpreted the situation and sided with the patient and claimed the experienced ED RN was "too rough in her opinion".)
It cost the experienced RN $20,000.00 in legal defense fees fighting the BON complaint. He still practices and is an excellent nurse but he and his RN wife will never be the same. The bogus BON complaint has changed how he and his wife practice nursing. Now they are practicing "paranoid" of any complaint. The complaint and clearing his name has very negatively effected every aspect of their lives.
Thanks to this NCSBN ad we will probably all practice a little paranoid. Being that overly cautious and defensive WILL negatively effect care.

I've always felt that a part of the problem is that nurses and CNA's are told that we are "MANDATED to report" any thing we see other nurses do that we thing is not up to standard. So some of the reports are events that are misconstrued as the poster above mentioned about the ED nurse. Doctors don't have the same culture of being MANDATED to report each other.
The regulatory council (NCSBN) does not need to advertise to get more people to complain. I agree with the poster who said people today know how to lodge a complaint.

This ad is ridiculous and a waste of money. Employers already background check, finger print us and look us up in all national databases.
And patients know the how to lodge a complaint against a nurses license. If they don't then they complain to the healthcare facility and the facility lodges the BON complaint.
I wonder if the NCSBN will run this ad with the Johnson and Johnson 'It's great to be a nurse', 'Become a nurse' type ads? Sad.
