NCSBN commercial

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I almost fell off the sofa this weekend when I saw this commercial. What are your thoughts?

I agree all. There is just this feeling of spite to that commercial doncha think?

It also encourages Joe Q. Screwball to call in, and he sure will.

Just seems like daily we run into more and more concrete reasons why it seems just crazy to be a nurse.

^^Best post ever!

Agreed. Joe Q. Screwball doesn't need the NCSBN to encourage him not to trust nurses. Why plant that seed?

The advertising does sound spiteful because everyone in America knows the consumer has the right to complain about every little thing. All of John Q Public and of course all medical types know they can anonymously complain against a professional RN license. Just another way for the NCSBN to keep the nurses down.

Totally agree with all the PROFESSIONAL Nurses who posted. This ad encourages distrust of nurses. We already have MANY checks and balances built into the hiring and constant monitoring process. The Council for Boards of Medicine would never do this to doctors.

Shame on the NCSBN! Running this ad was not the least bit necessary.

Yes I think the ad will encourage spiteful BON complaints by people who might not know all the facts. It seems to encourage public distrust of nurses.

Maybe the National Council hasn't heard that nurse's have been voted the most trusted professionals for 11 years. It's a self-promoting ad for the ncsbn and a total waste of funds!

If the National Board Of Medical Examiners or any state boards of medicine ran a ad like this the Docs would cry foul.

OMG that's why I can never get anyone at the board on the phone!!! They were all practicing for roles in that commercial, because I doubt nurses were lining up for that job.

lol

The ad strikes me as the national council attempting to justify their nice paychecks. The money could have been much better spent. Our employers do regular checks on our background and activities and as others said the public knows how to file a complaint against a nurse.

Sooooo THAT's where the $200 per application, per test for each NCLEX applicationon goes.....to produce a video depicting young, super-cute nurses, caring for young, super cute patients smiling like idiots while they encourage the general population to check us out- just 'cause. I don't even have my ATT yet, and I can feel the thu-thud of the bus wheels rolling over my back.

And wouldn't the money be better spent trying to organize a way to accurately identify legitimately unsafe nurses who cross state lines and practice for years in one state, while another has revoked their license? THAT would be protecting the public. Yes, it is up to the employer to check that out, but really, those cases make us all look bad, and probably prompted this video.

I cant help but to notice all of the hanging long hair, jewelry, and makeup. And some of those girls look like they are barely out of high school.

Also did you notice that the only men in the commercial were patients.

I wish there was a number I could call to complain about being over worked, not having enough supplies, not enough staff, and patients who are abusive.

don't agree because hospitals and nursing homes are required to check the two national healthcare data banks and nurse and the state bon before hire. then every two years hospitals recheck the employed nurses for criminal records and again they recheck the national data banks. if a license is revoked in one state you can be sure that nurse's name is in the national data banks.

the only nurses who face possible bon discipline yet can get their record wiped absolutely clean in all states are drug and alcohol addicted nurses. seems wrong that the ones who make a legit med error get a permanent national black mark while nurses who steal drugs from patients can get their record wiped clean.

to the ncsbn: the addicts should have a permanent record of discipline too because they often steal drugs again after going thru rehab.

yeah most facilities now subscribe to the national data banks so they get updated disciplinary info on all their nurses. but i agree that it's wrong that someone who makes a mistake who isn't stealing drugs or drinking gets a permanent public record in national data banks while nurses who steal drugs get a clean slate after a few years of monitoring. ncsbn needs to make that more fair. because addiction is a lifelong disease the nurse who steals drugs (and makes plenty of errors while impaired) should have a permanent record too.

Agree. If one makes a mistake they claim they are addicts to avoid having a permanent, public national record of the error.

I'm not sure what to think about this...I'd rather have a publicly advertised site to check out a physician, surgeon, or dentist rather than a nurse.

* Note my sarcasm* Since everyone is now encouraged to check out nurses, how about adding on to the site to check out a police officer, teacher, real estate agent, clergy, child care provider, plumber, cosmetologist , architect, bus driver and a pilot too?

sorry, all of the pilots are pretending to be cardiologists!
