Very good point. OP, I too wouldn't offer my opinions on this firing while at work. ...But there is no need to be fearful of getting fired too as long as you do your own job well.

My 2 cents: In most states you don't need a reason to fire an employee so I don't agree that the fired employee has strong grounds for a lawsuit. Agree that the admin or someone probably has another (or other) reasons for wanting her out of there. It's good that you're staying out of it.

I seriously doubt that you're stupid. Being a nurse is unbelievably stressful, confusing at times and hard. Nursing has to be one of the hardest jobs there is.

Your mom is correct about the over supply of new grad nurses. Also consider that your nursing school is not accredited. Plus you seem to have an aptitude for Accounting. Nursing in the next 10 years
Nurses in hospitals will still have heavy care and high acuity patient loads because it's all about profits. Hospitals and nursing programs will continue to use political clout and tell the public and PTB that there is a "nursing shortage" instead of a shortage of RN's willing to work in bad conditions.

Steps of becoming nurse
I agree with Caregiver. If you are serious you should talk to RN's about the job market and their working conditions. Maybe volunteer to see if you like the actual work. I also believe in going straight for the four year BSN. It is a much better route as you will have more jobs open to you as a new grad.

Our new hire, new grad charge nurse
op, i suggest you chart everything when dealing with this "charge". for example, when you have a change in status of the patient, always chart "charge rn made aware" or "reported to charge rn". of course you do have to report it to her first before charting you did. angel angel you actually said "charge rn made aware". i agree with mike. by your logic as an staff floor rn i should always chart "charge rn made aware". this will probably be a moot point soon as few hospitals will hire lpn's if their practice is so restricted. even in ltc lpn practice is very restricted. i worked in one 480 bed ltc/skilled facility where the lpn's told me i had to do all the diabetic nail care because they weren't allowed. hmmm besides my hall of 19 skilled patients and 11 residents i had to do weekly nail care on all diabetics in the whole nh.
