  1. It's MS not Ms. And there is no such thing as a "critical access hospital." Don't believe everything you "see in the paper." Please learn on your own before posting hospital propaganda.
  2. Mississippi is absolutely glutted with nurses. Way too many nursing schools here cranking out new grads here whilst very few get hired. In my small town we have 5 programs graduating RN's twice a year as well as one state University graduating RN's yearly.
  3. Snark much? Did you happen to ask the nursing schools you that requested the essay if posting on AN requesting "peer-editing" for a PERSONAL essay was OK? Didn't think so because you knew it's not OK.
  4. I first heard it here but it can't be repeated enough. There never was a nursing shortage. There was and is only a shortage of nurses willing and physically/mentally able to put us with the impossible demands made on us.
  5. There is no nursing shortage. The hospitals purposely work us short so that they can pocket the profits. It's no skin off their nose if you are exhausted, make a mistake then lose your license. They've always had a ready pool of nurses (US based and imports) to fill in when we burn out due to impossible demands made on us. Pt ratios are TOO high because that's how the hospitals make money. Pt ratios stay high b/c nursing school keep cranking out gullible new grads.
  6. don't agree because hospitals and nursing homes are required to check the two national healthcare data banks and nurse and the state bon before hire. then every two years hospitals recheck the employed nurses for criminal records and again they recheck the national data banks. if a license is revoked in one state you can be sure that nurse's name is in the national data banks. the only nurses who face possible bon discipline yet can get their record wiped absolutely clean in all states are drug and alcohol addicted nurses. seems wrong that the ones who make a legit med error get a permanent national black mark while nurses who steal drugs from patients can get their record wiped clean. to the ncsbn: the addicts should have a permanent record of discipline too because they often steal drugs again after going thru rehab.
  7. lol The ad strikes me as the national council attempting to justify their nice paychecks. The money could have been much better spent. Our employers do regular checks on our background and activities and as others said the public knows how to file a complaint against a nurse.
  8. Most RN's from my graduating class are still looking for nursing jobs too. If I were you I'd take it but practice defensively to protect your license.
  9. OP, why did they say they'd report you to the 'board of nurses' if Canadian nurses use a different term for their disciplinary board?
  10. The BON is to report unethical or unprofessional conduct and violations of the NPA. If this LTC or hospital had no needle stick policy then they should be reported to OSHA not the BON. If the facility didn't follow policy then OP should call an attorney because she needs legal advice she can't get here due to TOS.
  11. Male and female new grad RNs from my class are having equal trouble finding jobs.
  12. I think you put your license at risk by not reporting her. RNs are mandatory reporters. When I was a CNA I had to report someone. I didn't like being in that position but I had to think of the patients. btw The person was able to figure out I was the one who made the report. - She was angry at me and later she tried to harass me but I had a responsibility to the patients to do the right thing.
  13. As an unemployed new grad RN I was wondering why you hear so much about the "nurse shortage". Then I came across this article. Turns out there is an over supply of new grads nurses. Even experienced nurses around Virgina are having trouble finding jobs. See Washington Post and Baltimore Journal articles: Demand for Nurses Lessens During Economic Downturn - washingtonpost.com As white-hot nursing market cools, a job is no longer a sure thing | Baltimore Business Journal
  14. Hi. I'll be interested to read any replies you get. I've had no luck in my job search and have thought of volunteering at a hospital or clinic to make connections.
  15. This thread is from 2008. I guess not much has changed.
