I don't get your concern/point. What is the issue with this commercial? the website only shows them that you are a nurse, how long you have been a nurse and any sanctions/disciplinary actions. it does not give them any pertinent/ personal information. I have done searches on child care providers before placing my baby in daycare and the information i receive is basically the same, when the person was certified and any sanctions/disciplinary actions against them. This advert is more about public awareness and has nothing with being against nurses.

This ad is ridiculous and a waste of money. Employers already background check, finger print us and look us up in all national databases.

And patients know the how to lodge a complaint against a nurses license. If they don't then they complain to the healthcare facility and the facility lodges the BON complaint.

I wonder if the NCSBN will run this ad with the Johnson and Johnson 'It's great to be a nurse', 'Become a nurse' type ads?:crying2::rolleyes: Sad.

There are more and more scams and sadly some of them are now involving "nurses" who run so called "independent services" and usually cater to home health patients. This just alerts the public to check and see if you are really who you say you are, a nurse. The add is all about public awareness. It assures the public that nurses are not hired like housekeeping or parking lot attendants, that there are guidelines and only the best of the best are given chances to be nurses.

I think the central issue is the negative connotation- some might even perceive it as encouragement- to look up nurses' online. I think this action in and of itself sparks for reservation and/or distrust in the nurse-patient relationship. Keep in mind, this is even before the patient takes any action to look up and regardless of the information provided on the website. Any patient who views this ad may be prompted to question the character/knowledge/practice of their nurse right off the bat. It lends for unneccesary suspicion.

I agree with earlier posts. If a patient has a problem with their health care provider, be it a nurse, doctor, dentist or whoever, they will find out who to complain to. I think this ad is sad as it certainly does not portray unity amongst nurses.

Well said. This ad is sad and could prompt unnecessary suspicion.

I feel the same as VanillaNut. This ad is a waste of money that could have been spent on much better things...like designing good courses ncsbn could then market to nurses who make med errors and such.

This ad is the BONs justifying their existence at the expense of public trust of nurses. PLAIN AND SIMPLE! Do you see the BOM running these ads?? NO WAY!

Hey ncsbn,

If you and the state BONs are so concerned about pt safety where's the number I can call to tell pts that rampant hospital short staffing causes errors and even death?!?

And where's the number to call to have them drug test members of the national council and all members of state board's of nursing??? We get drug tested regularly. Do you?

Not to worry. When the BONs start getting so many phone calls that they actually have to work for a living they will pull the ads.

Haha. We need shorter term-limits on these entitled witch hunters/members of the Board of Nazis. Then then can get back on the units to see what the real problems are-(intentional short staffing, etc)

Looks just like my unit. All pretty high school aged nurses with long hair and hoop ear rings. Where are the male nurses?

and wouldn't the money be better spent trying to organize a way to accurately identify legitimately unsafe nurses who cross state lines and practice for years in one state, while another has revoked their license? that would be protecting the public. yes, it is up to the employer to check that out, but really, those cases make us all look bad, and probably prompted this video.

don't agree because hospitals and nursing homes are required to check the two national healthcare data banks and nurse and the state bon before hire. then every two years hospitals recheck the employed nurses for criminal records and again they recheck the national data banks. if a license is revoked in one state you can be sure that nurse's name is in the national data banks.

the only nurses who face possible bon discipline yet can get their record wiped absolutely clean in all states are drug and alcohol addicted nurses. seems wrong that the ones who make a legit med error get a permanent national black mark while nurses who steal drugs from patients can get their record wiped clean.

to the ncsbn: the addicts should have a permanent record of discipline too because they often steal drugs again after going thru rehab.

thanks for the heads up on what is supposed to happen. my point is that ads like this are usually in response to, or as a pre-emptive strike against public hue and cry. the effort seems to be a way to demonstrate that someone is watching and protecting the public.

my license is issued by the state, obviously checks and balances need to be in place. but i feel a sense of paranoia: i know, i know, as long as i practice safely, it shouldn't even be an issue. but i now feel extra worried, especially starting out as a new nurse.

I commented on this commercial here weeks ago when I first saw it. My thoughts today are the same. How negative. How unnecessary.
