3 Tests in 5 days!!!
What state are you guys in? Why are they doing blood tests? In Texas it's urine only as far as I know and it's either $55 or around 80 if you use an afterhours collection site.

Seriously?! Grrrr.
Lol, and how would that be a random drug test if you had 24 hours to drop a sample??? Let's be honest, not all nurses here are sober and cheating this "system" is not that difficult. It's now 2AM in Houston, this is the time I check mine almost everyday while I empty my bladder. Gives me plenty of time to plan my day. *****Download the app, it takes 15 seconds to check and I get a screenshot of all my confirmation numbers just in case there's an issue down the road.

Still Waiting to Hear
Not in Arizona but mine in Texas took close to 2.5 years. Continue with your life, as hard as that may sound. There are almost 10 steps/processes in texas and each took up to 3 or 4 months.

ER visit paper work for TPAPN
Not trying to be rude but isn't this kind of question better answered by your case manager or monitoring supervisor? Not on TPAPN but all I do is fax the script and ER visit summary. I don't get scripts for more than 7 days. If you're on long term meds then ask your case manager.

Recovery Trek
I'm sorry dear but you make no sense. Maybe correct your post or offer more details. The boards of nursing in all states do not communicate by hearsay or over the phone, they do so in writing, that you have to sign and notarize. Anything that anyone from the BON tells you over the phone is considered hearsay. Only board orders count. And they only count from the dates they say it's effective. If all they want is one year of sobriety and a refresher course then what so you need a lawyer for????

Recoverytrek option 6
Is there any reason why people keep asking for this numbers??? All of them are 12 panel drug tests, with added testings for tramadol, prescription drugs, alcohol, synthetic drugs and so on. So regardless of what option you'll be getting a 12 panel. If you're an alcoholic, have a dwi or dui, expect an alcohol test on all yours regardless of the option. Don't be filled by numbers.

Hopes for the New Year???
Other than the date, is there anything that changes. I'll be asleep whenever the new year gets here. Have to be up at 4, and continue with the requirements of the draconian Texas BON. So, nothing different this "new" year other than the date.

this should be interesting..
Call me stupid but I've googled it and there's no contract that allows drinking. If it's an error then you're in big trouble. Just because it doesn't mention alcohol doesn't mean you can partake in it. Mine doesn't mention meth or cocaine😀😀😀😀. Anywho, what exactly does your order say, my lawyer needs to hear about this ASAP.

Need advice from my fellow nurses in recovery!
As far as pee tests, are you in a rural area?? If not, find a lab that will send someone to you or one that tests after hours or early in the morning. If you work in a hospital then use your labs, it may cost extra but you can tell them to call you when they're ready and it's a 5 min deal. Cut all your expenses and focus on getting the board order over and done with. If youre going to use an after hours or have them come to you, expect to pay double (110). Also remember you won't always test on your work day., Some will be your off days so you'll have plenty of time to get to them.

Does a Pyxis have the capability to restrict Narcotics to a user?
This whole warm body deal is pure BS, excuse my French. I did plenty of assessments, discharge teachings, paperwork and so on in exchange of me not being able to pass narcs. In addition, I could follow up on effectiveness of pain meds and so forth. So it's an exchange, I pass your pain meds and you do this, as long as it's a fair or near fair exchange, it's so simple a cave man could do it. On to the OP's question, yes the pyxis can restrict your access but that in turn involves notifying the pharmacy, pharmacist, some doctors and the more people you have to get an ok from the harder it is for you to get that profile. While on a board order, if you get hired, they'll probably pair you with the charge nurse or seasoned nurse, you'll be on their schedule, if you help them out, your stay will be easy. If you whine, then good luck. Either way, good luck, you have a long journey ahead.

RN in IPN waiting for HR
Rule number one, NEVER EVER tell HR about your order, NEVER. 99% of the staff have zero knowledge of board orders, all they know is you are bad for the company. Only tell the person interviewing you, if it's a floor nurse, insist that you need to talk to the Unit manager, the ADON or the DON. Those are the people in charge of giving a yes or no on whether they want you on that floor and you can explain your situation better to them. For instance, my order from the draconican Texas BON has 8 stipulations. I've done 6, the only thing that is ever an issue is that I cannot be a charge nurse, as long as there is a charge nurse then it's I'm just like any other nurse. The other is that I do drug tests but that is covered outside of work and I never have to take prolonged breaks, come in late or whatever. So really, they are hiring a non charge nurse for the duration of the order. I find it easier to explain that to the unit manager, DON and so far I've had a total of 5 offers of which I've worked 2 jobs. One of them screwed me up less than 2 months ago. But that's a different story. NEVER TELL HR, even after the interview.

"Recovery" and public shaming
I've tried but without success to see the point of why state boards post board orders for everyone to see. Has this been shown/proved to increase the recovering nurses morale, spirits or hasten their recovery??? I mean, an employer is required to go to the boards website and in the case of Texas, enter your last 4 SSN digits and your birthdate, print your license and have you sign it. This has happened to all the jobs that I have ever applied to ever since I want an LVN. Why not attach the board order there? That would require someone to have your SSN and DOB and not merely guess your name. Isn't it time that some of these Draconian rules from the 80's and 90's when people barely had computers or internet access become updated? We already have to disclose to employers but I guess the shaming is an integral part of recovery. What can we do as nurse addicts, recovering addicts or whatever you want to call us to make this change happen??

Living Will Tattoo
I didn't read the replies nor did I read that article so this may be a repetition of answers already given. My 2 cents, tattooing DNR or no intubation is not an actual living will though. There has to be more to the story. My guess is he was a "frequent flyer" and had signed a DNR in the past. In Texas back in the days when I was working skilled nursing we used to receive transfers with in hospital DNR orders signed by 2 physicians and a specialist. It was trash, we could not honor it. The patient or resident had to have an out of hospital DNR. if we can't honor a paper with 3 physicians signatures, imagine a tattoo. Anyway, that was my 2 cents. Peace!!!!!!

Switching fields
Has anyone looked into switching from Nursing to Occupational therapy or Physical therapy. As a certified occupational therapy assistant, the pay is not that different from an RN, and yes, pay is really important, I have a morgarge, medical expenses and other bills. In Texas cOTA's sometimes make more than RNs. Don't get me wrong, I love or loved being an RN but I went from being a lead resource and part of the rapid response team to doing vitals and kissing behinds in a nursing home or whatever job I have. All I'm looking forward to Isabel day when my license is free again but who know when that will be. Probation in Texas is just torture to say the least. pre-reqs are identical to RN/ADN and it's a 1 year program if accepted. Chime in if you have looked into this or any other healthcare related field. Just trying to explore all available avenues.

Suportive Advertising ?
Don't post then get mad for honest replies. Anyway, I'm not an alcoholic but isn't alcohol everywhere from every gas station, every wing place, pizza joints, Walmart, grocery stores and so on. If you're sober then you pass this places without any issues. Is there something in particular about an ad that would make you relapse??
