  1. Wow. This post is a whole new low for allnurses. It is bad enough that so many newbie/students try to get homework help. Despite what you facebook/genX types think you are supposed to be able to write and edit your own nursing school essay.

  3. If you can't stay clean and sober long enough to pass a drug test you know of in advance what will you do when you work for one of the many employers who have random drug testing? Many hospitals do random testing of nursing staff and almost all hospitals, NH, LTC places will test everyone on the floor at the time of an incident. Also most places will test all nursing staff when the count if short. How will you pass random or an *incident based random drug test* if you can't pass a drug screen you knew about.
  4. Over the years I've seen a lot of NEWLY CREATED "first time poster" allnurses accounts ask this same question in various ways. It gets old as the answer is always the same. UCLA WAS helpful in that they gave you the answer all US nursing schools will give you. The truth is thousands of foreigners would like to work as RN's in the US but it's extremely hard to do without being an American citizen/having a social security number.
  5. Hey ncsbn, If you and the state BONs are so concerned about pt safety where's the number I can call to tell pts that rampant hospital short staffing causes errors and even death?!? And where's the number to call to have them drug test members of the national council and all members of state board's of nursing??? We get drug tested regularly. Do you?
  6. ^^Best post ever! Agreed. Joe Q. Screwball doesn't need the NCSBN to encourage him not to trust nurses. Why plant that seed? The advertising does sound spiteful because everyone in America knows the consumer has the right to complain about every little thing. All of John Q Public and of course all medical types know they can anonymously complain against a professional RN license. Just another way for the NCSBN to keep the nurses down. Totally agree with all the PROFESSIONAL Nurses who posted. This ad encourages distrust of nurses. We already have MANY checks and balances built into the hiring and constant monitoring process. The Council for Boards of Medicine would never do this to doctors. Shame on the NCSBN! Running this ad was not the least bit necessary.
  7. EXACTLY! OUTRAGEOUS! You'd NEVER seen national council of medical boards advertising. People know how to complain without the advertisement encouraging it.

She sounds mad that the "old" (read experienced) nurses aren't spending all of their time teaching her how to be a good nurse. Also I question the novice nurse who charts an assessment in 3 minutes. It takes longer to do more complete CYA documentation.
  9. That ad annoys me. That ad campaign was started to get more people into nursing. All the while new grad RNs can't even get jobs in my area. Even experienced nurses are having trouble finding work as nurses. Now they constantly run the one trying to get more people to become nurse instructors. There is no nursing shortage.
  10. In light of the shortage of jobs for new grad RNs there is nothing wrong in doing CNA or LPN work until you get an RN job. I guess you have to clear it with your BON. I know of two recent new grads working as CNA's in hospitals although they have passed nclex. They are job hunting for RN positions while paying their bills with the CNA job.
  11. Agree. A medical mission seems like a good way for a new grad to get some experience to put on his resume. Also call hospitals to see what they accept in the way of RN's who wish to volunteer. Good luck in your job hunt.
  12. Yes good luck in your job search. The military might be a good idea if you like to travel. You are right that the "RN shortage" is a myth I'm starting to think about going back to school to retrain for something with more job options. I'm wondering if there is a related field where jobs are more plentiful. OT or PT maybe. Anywhoo good luck in your job search LDubois.
  13. I agree that the reason one posts a status on face book is to get others to respond. But I also don't think co-workers are the same as friends.
  14. That's why I don't have a fb. I'm sorry this happened to you. I know many nurses like your co-worker. There are so many petty tattle-tales in nursing. Hope you feel better.
  15. My thought exactly. Getting a nursing job will become more competitive as more new nurses graduate. Hospital acuity will rise as length of stay must decrease due to the escalating cost of health care.
