Not sure who has been following my posts or not... I am currently working on a medsurg floor and have been for 3 years. I applied for an ICU position about a week and a half ago. Interviewed yesterday. Interview went well... DON said he had 2 more interviews to do and would let me know something next week.... Well today I'm at work, pulling meds from the pyxis and here comes the DON of the ICU. He walks right through the nurses station with this huge smile on his face. He comes right up to me and asks me if I still want to work in the ICU... Umm yes!! He said he asked a few doctors about me yesterday and they all gave me raving reviews. He said he wanted to hurry and offer me the position before I changed my mind!! :lol2: I was so excited! Of course I accepted!! So here I am.. going from a day shift medsurg nurse to a night shift ICU nurse. I've been wanting this for a long time. I feel excited, nervous, overwhelmed, honored, overjoyed, and relieved.
Any advice????

I don't have any advice but Congrats!!!! I just took NCLEX today and think I passed (according to Pearson Vue trick haha)! I really want to work in any area that involves babies or peds but have a feeling that I will have to put in my time before I land a job where I really want...anyways congrats on making it to your dream!! And Good luck

CONGRATULATIONS!
I loved it loved it loved it, when I did it. That was a hun'ret years ago, I'm sure things have changed, but what I liked most was that I could focus on just a few patients at a time and really know them, their hxs, and get really good assessments in. If you can get really good assessments in, 9 times out of 10 you can avoid them having a crisis. It really is sa-weet. Sometimes VERY stressful but generally I even found it less stressful than med surg, because of the low ratio and also because you get to learn so much more so quickly!
whoo hoo! keep us posted! How much orientation will you get?
16 weeks.. Sounds reasonable to me :)

I must say... It's so refreshing to hear a positive story these days.
Everyone is so frustrated and depressed over the state of the job market/economy... this is a breath of fresh air!
Congratulations!!
