My lovely oldest who is in 5th grade has been telling me that she has been seeing her school nurse because....her lips are chapped. It was even noted in her recent IEP review that during her testing, she requested to go to the nurse because her lips were bothering her that bad! Needless to say we had a chat about what are good reasons to see the nurse and that chapped lips don't qualify!

I have a frequent flier who only comes when he has chapped lips. Easy problem to fix. Unlike my frequent fliers who complain of a twisted ankle, no wait! a sore knee, no wait! feel like they are going to puke. :). My chapped lips kid is one of my favorites.

Hello, my name is Sully and I am addicted to chapstick. I wish that was a joke. I have used several different kinds, most of which I end up developing an allergy to. It seems my face doesn't like SPF.

The addiction is so bad I once lost my trusty, special ordered (I order 5 sticks at a time) chapstick on a car ride. As I frantically searched the car I found an old tube of the type I was allergic to. Mr. Sully warned me not to do it. But I had to... my lips started to feel tight from being so parched. I applied the chapstick and within 20 minutes they were tingly and puffy.

Another time I had a doctors appointment and made Mr. Sully go to the gift shop to buy some. It truly is an addiction. And when I go without it for too long my lips tighten up, start getting itchy and I feel like it's hard to open them.

I have started to cut down, I limit my use. But I kind of feel for this kid. Maybe you could get her a tube to keep with her? I have a handy retractable one I keep on my work badge.

My own 5th grade DS is totally a frequent flyer- has been since K. Sigh... His school nurse is awesome though and she appreciates that I totally get it and don;t try to micro manage him at school. I've had several chats with him, he's also seen the guidance counselor. He is an anxious kid so he definitely has a legit stomach ache when he goes, but we are working on understanding that the stomach aches he gets won;t get any better going to the nurse and instead try to work on calming exercises.

But what if I'm happy being a chapstick addict and just wanted y'all to know that if I'm grumpy, its because my lips are chapped?? ;)

The first step toward recovery is admitting you're an addict so congratulations on that...next is to realize you "want" to live life chapstick free. You're stuck on letting go, I understand. Now let's light some incense, hold hands, get some guided imagery going, and get you set free.

My wife wants to start a 12 step program with you and my son who she has passed the addiction on to. Burt's Bees are her drug of choice. She laughed the whole time I was reading this. She agreed with every word.

A & D ointment makes the lips really soft and heals them well.
