Who is Taking Micro this summer? Here is a thread that we can all refer to for support. If you have any links to helpful websites please feel free to add them.
What text book is everyone using? At my school we use 'Microbiology-A Human Perspective'.
Does anyone else have concerns about using microscopes? I have used the microscope recently in A&P I and II but have always had a hard time seeing what we are supposed. Probably a dumb question but I am assuming that most of the labs deal with using the micrsocope, correct?
Finally does anyone else feel frustrated about other students who are taking microbiology (or whatever the sceince class might be) and they have open book/take home exams? My college leaves it up to the professor and 3 out of 4 of the classes appear to be allowing students to take the midterm at least at home. My class is online with the exception of 4 weekends for labs and 3 of the 4 weekends include exams. I keep telling myself hopefully I will remember more than someone who doesn't have to study.
I started micro online about 5 weeks ago. Holy Cow! My first paper netted me a D. I am back up to a B now but I wish I had found this thread earlier! Thanks for all of the links.
Taking A&P I at the same time, then one more pre-req to go before I can apply to the RN program (unless they change the pre-reqs again).
It is obvious that my prior 4.0 will suffer after the micro, but I will be thrilled if I get a B.:smackingf

Looking through the microscope can be pretty tricky. A lot of people in our class always have to get our teacher to come and help us and than we are like wow that was easy. It just takes some getting use to. I always don't know exactly what I am trying to find and once the teacher finds it I always am like "oh yeah I see it now".
As for the open book/take home exams, I never thought about it. We don't have any open book or take home exams. I go to a classroom and all of our exams are during class. A lot of times the open book and take home exams are harder. Our teacher tells us what will be on the test and gives us good notes and we don't have to read the whole book in order to grasp what we need to know since our teacher is a really good one who like what she does and it just clicks in my head once she describes it. Too confusing in the book. Good luck!!

I hear you there ... wow take home test... amazing .. I wish you could see all this stuff we have for one test! It is horrifing. We got our notes on Tuesday to study for a four chapter test today It took me 4 whole days Just to answer all the questions in the notes then I only had one day plus this am (my class is at 1pm) to study. I hope I pull it off but who knows we have 100 question tests and believe me they are not Open book its what you know or (cram) or nothing! I truly believe you will be the winner in the end if you are forced to study then you will remember something.
Good luck to you in this class BE :pumpiron:

I had a friend who had an "easy" teacher for her micro class. This teacher told the students what to study for, and what pages to get the info from. Most of the students recieved "A's" and breezed through the stuff.
This student told me she wished she had the other teacher, because in 3rd and 4th semester of nursing you really need this information, and she felt lost and behind the other students that had the teacher that was harder and made the students really learn the stuff.
Hope this helps and study hard!
First Post!
I'm in the Micro Boat sailing the Summer River! Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 3rd week of a 5 week course. Our school has 3 summer sessions; 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 5 weeks consecutively. I have decided to take at least 1 class every session. This session, the second one, I have Microbiology lecture and lab. How moronic could I be?! Oh well, it's hump week!
Our lecture class has adopted the Totora book and we're cruising right along at the swift pace of at least a chapter per day. We have a "mini-exam" every day - class 3 days a week. As for lab, which is 3 days a week also, our instructor writes our whole university's manuals and we sure do fly right on thru those exercises like we're ole pros. I can do gram stains in my sleep! We have 3 exams in that class throughout the 5 week course and he writes those things so they are tricky as they can be! I am an A student and got a 76 on my first exam. I was so upset I couldn't speak. Better luck next time.

Does anyone else have a Metrics Quiz that MUST be passed before you can pass the class???
Its a 30 quiz the you have to convert between mass volume and distance
Like from 0.546 uL (microliters) to hL (hectaliters)
After going to tutoring, Ive found my way; I just cant seem to pass it in 30 min though. I was just wondering if anyone else was having issues with it.
