Help with care plan please!
I don't believe that "to suction the trach and assess vitals for hypoxia and hypercapnia" are goals for the care plan - these would be interventions. The goal on a nursing care plan is something that is an outcome that is patient-centered, measurable and can be long- or short-term...an example for a trach patient could be (ref. http://www1.us.elsevierhealth.com/MERLIN/Gulanick/Constructor/index.cfm?plan=02) Patient's secretions are mobilized and airway is maintained free of secretions, as evidenced by clear lung sounds, eupnea, and ability to effectively cough up secretions after treatments and deep breaths.

I applied to Excelsior today!!!
I've already had a Microbiology class at the local university and hope that EC will accept it along with a bunch of other classes that I've already had. Hopefully it won't be too much longer and I'll know just what all I need to take from EC in order to get a degree. But I'm serious as serious can be about a study group - most definitely!

I applied to Excelsior today!!!
I too applied a couple of week ago and am awaiting the unofficial analysis of my transcripts - can't wait to get started! Good luck - maybe we can all get a study group going? :)

I failed dosage and calculations
Our medication dosage calculations isn't a separate class, but we do have to pass a test given 1 time per semester with a 100%. We use the Dimentional Analysis for Meds book which really explains and makes everything really simple. There are a few typos in the book, but for the most part, it's been really nice so far. We'll use this book throughout the entire program, not just the first semester.

See-thru white scrubs
I guess our school must have had this problem in the past and have since started requiring us to buy our uniforms from the same place. We now MUST order our uniforms from Nightingale. They come up and measure you so they're custom-fit. The uniform material is so much thicker than most of those that are out there too. While our uniforms are indeed the dreaded white zip up the front top, and white trousers, not one person was able to see that I had on bright red underwear the day of the uniform fitting. I did it as a trial! :) We also are required to purchase a white lab coat from Nightingale. All very thick and nice.

**UPDATED!!**: I received an acceptance letter BY MISTAKE!!
Wowsers! Technology today never ceases to amaze me. Glad it turned out to be a mistake. Whew!

**UPDATED!!**: I received an acceptance letter BY MISTAKE!!
Congratulations! Something happened this year at our school that was about unforgiveable. Almost every letter (acceptance and not) that went out was sent to the wrong person. Weird thing is, that every person knew it because when they got the letters in their mailbox, it had someone else's name on it with their address on it. Upon opening the letter, it was addressed to someone else at their address as well. Talk about making someone ill! I got someone's "I'm sorry, but you've been put on the alternate list" letter and a friend of mine got my "Congratulations, you've been accepted" letter. My friend was supposed to have gotten a straight rejection letter. They fixed it but it took a while and we'd already been waiting 3 months for them to come! Anyway, congratulations and study hard! :)

*Microbiology-Summer 2006*
I personally don't see how anyone could learn the techniques that are needed in nursing online rather than doing them in lab. The first week of class was more learning the technique than learning any material really. And for the person that asked why lots of us decided to take the class in the summer, I was accepted into the nursing program for the fall so wanted to focus on just nursing classes and wipe out everything but those before the fall semester started. Microbiology lecture and lab, a humanities (I chose music appreciation) and english 100 is what I loaded my summer with. I will still carry 10 hours this fall, which in addition to being a divorced mother to a 6 yr old and working full time, will probably just about do me in.

*Microbiology-Summer 2006*
First Post! I'm in the Micro Boat sailing the Summer River! Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 3rd week of a 5 week course. Our school has 3 summer sessions; 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 5 weeks consecutively. I have decided to take at least 1 class every session. This session, the second one, I have Microbiology lecture and lab. How moronic could I be?! Oh well, it's hump week! Our lecture class has adopted the Totora book and we're cruising right along at the swift pace of at least a chapter per day. We have a "mini-exam" every day - class 3 days a week. As for lab, which is 3 days a week also, our instructor writes our whole university's manuals and we sure do fly right on thru those exercises like we're ole pros. I can do gram stains in my sleep! We have 3 exams in that class throughout the 5 week course and he writes those things so they are tricky as they can be! I am an A student and got a 76 on my first exam. I was so upset I couldn't speak. Better luck next time.
