Who is Taking Micro this summer? Here is a thread that we can all refer to for support. If you have any links to helpful websites please feel free to add them.

What text book is everyone using? At my school we use 'Microbiology-A Human Perspective'.

Can someone tell me how many chromosomes bacteria cells have? I think it is multiple #s but wasnt sure.

Also how many SIGNIFICANT amino acids there are? Is this 20, I know there is 20 in all but dont know if that is how many significant ones there are.

Most all bacteria have one chromosome and very rarely have two.

This comes a little late in the thread, but thanks to all who provided links to Microbiology website! I am in Microbiology and I just can't take studying in the book anymore, it's too dense and I can't concentrate. For some reason, I learn much better reading things online. Good luck everyone!

A little late in the thread here but I'm taking micro as well this summer in the 5 week course. We started June 5th and end July 7th. I have my first exam today, actually in one hour! I feel pretty good about the class so far, really enjoying my professor. I am really enjoying the labs as well. Our class is lecture online and labs 3 days a week so in class all we do is labs and tests. I'm hoping to do awesome on today's exam! Fingers crossed!

How are you guys doing in lab? I can't seem to see any of the organisms! It's driving me batty. I did an acid fast stain yesturday adn finally saw S. Aureus, but anything else I couldn't see and it's making me nervous that i'm going to fail!

Has anyone done the capsule stain on P. Vulgaris or K. pneumonia?

We just did the capsule stain yesterday and saw our results today. It was pretty cool. Lab is going ok for me. At times it gets frustrating with the microscopes but after awhile I can see it. We haven't done acid fast yet. Good luck!!

We did stains today, it was pretty neat even though I didn't see as much as I would have liked under the microscope, but hey, it was my first time doing them. My midterm lab practical is on Tuesday. Everyone wish me luck.

We had our lab midterm on monday and i got a 97. We did nitrate reduction and glucose hydrolysis today. I also had trouble with my microscope at first with oil immersion but i finally got the hang of it and can almost do it in my sleep now. good luck everyone!!!

:idea: cyb - you crack me up! i do know exactly what you mean by your posting! personally, there must be other valuable information on the cd for you to learn from! i would not give it over, and just explain you need it, or just say you had to let another friend borrow it. i know two women that share books. they take the same classes, and buy only one book between them - hey that is great, because its an agreement between the two of them. i help them out when i can, but i need the book too!

so how is the class coming along? do you think there is any other class that might have helped you prepare for micro?

thank you for responding to my posting, i just wanted to vent my frustation and i got more in return., thank you again. now let me tell you that my class is coming along, i enjoy microbiology, and believe that taking biology prior to, helped me prepare for this class. oh, and my classmates are doing much better, a third one tried to play the trick on me though, and guess what i said,i told her no....and then stayed with her after class so she could write notes for an upcoming test!

I got a B on the first test! Not too bad, got the second test today and now I know what to study for! We did capsule stains yesterday. We are really flying along with our labs (I guess so since it's only 5 weeks!) But we have already done 9 labs and have 4 left, which we are finishing next week.

Got a B on my first major exam and the next one is a take home exam so I should be fine with that one as well, then only one more to go. :lol2:

Hey guys,

Micro is coming along pretty good for me. I got a 100 on the first exam and a 105 on the second. :balloons: We're also flying through labs!! I didn't think it was possible to do 6 (!!!) labs in one day!!! Anyways, 3 classes left. I just hope A&PII goes as smooth for the second part of summer!! Good luck finishing micro up everyone.
