Who is Taking Micro this summer? Here is a thread that we can all refer to for support. If you have any links to helpful websites please feel free to add them.

What text book is everyone using? At my school we use 'Microbiology-A Human Perspective'.

Has anyone taken Microbiology online?

I personally don't see how anyone could learn the techniques that are needed in nursing online rather than doing them in lab. The first week of class was more learning the technique than learning any material really.

And for the person that asked why lots of us decided to take the class in the summer, I was accepted into the nursing program for the fall so wanted to focus on just nursing classes and wipe out everything but those before the fall semester started. Microbiology lecture and lab, a humanities (I chose music appreciation) and english 100 is what I loaded my summer with. I will still carry 10 hours this fall, which in addition to being a divorced mother to a 6 yr old and working full time, will probably just about do me in.

Entering week 4 of 5! It's almost time to regain my sanity! I have my last lecture exam today (aside from the final) then big lab exam on wednesday, then the final next wednesday! In the final stretch now! I met with my teacher and I just need at least 85's on the last two tests to get an A in the class! So lots of studying for these final two tests! In other news, my A & P 2 class is almost over too and I have a solid A in it! I thought I bombed the lab exam but made a 91! 2 more weeks and I am done eating, sleeping, living, breathing A & P 2 and microbiology!

Only four more days left for me! We have our last test tomorrow then the final on monday. Our unkowns were due today and I got them both right on my first try! Good luck to all!

Al, I agree that the idea of taking a microbiology class online seems strange but there are several out there. Some do not have a lab component, others have you do the lab on a computer-the pros being you don't have to wait for your cultures to grow, and nothing bad will happen if you combine the wrong chemicals, other than you would have to start the procedure over.

I am currently taking what my college calls a Hybrid class where the lecture is online, basically the professor just posts her notes and then we have 3 weekends of labs-Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday morning and afternoon. Sounds like lab is going to be long but I am sure it will be interesting. I would have preferred to take microbiology in a traditional classroom since I think it is hard to learn certain things online, math, languages, and science classes included, however this was the only one close by that I could take since I work during the day.

Well my microbiology class finally started this week and as I noted in another post it is a hybrid meaning the lectures are posted online and we take quizzes online but we have to go to the college for 3 weekends to take the tests and perform the labs.

I can't believe I am already starting to feel stressed and I am only taking one class. I think the reason I am stressed is it is all new material and we are doing 3 chapters and 3 quizzes this week in the Tortora, Funke book. I would have waited to take this class when it was being offered during the regular semester so I would have a longer time to take the class but I have already had to wait a whole year before I could start applying to nursing school because of this one course.

Does anyone have any tips for remembering who discovered what? I know Lister was the first to use disinfectants during anesthesia. I rembember this by the fact that Listerine disinfects (cleans) the mouth which is what Lister was doing.

Well, I got a 96!!! Now I have to keep that up during the next two weeks. I am soooo happy! Micro during the summer is not easy... class Monday thru Thursday is driving me crazy!

Congratulations!!!

I know the feeling of finally done with Microbiology. I was going for 6 weeks four days a week. I am glad I am done and still waiting for my grade.
