OK- Off my high horse lol..
I have a questrion - if a patient's acid-fast stain from sputum is positive, but there is no mention of a 7H12 Middlebrooks media, and his PPD is negative, is this enough information to confirm that the patient has pneumonia and not TB?
Very few bacteria stain acid-fast positive, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of them. So I would still be looking at TB. A PPD might be negative if the TB exposure was very recent. "An incubation period of two to 12 weeks is usually necessary after exposure to the TB bacteria in order for the PPD test to be positive." http://www.medicinenet.com/tuberculosis_skin_test_ppd_skin_test/article.htm The only other possibility that comes to mind right away is a Nocardia infection. Nocardia is weakly positive on acid-fast staining, but it can cause a slow progressing pneumonia.

That helps a lot! Thanks a bunch!!!
Ok- Got an 88 on the psych test. Did better than I thought. funny part is that I founded the test so hard and got so overwhelm while taking it that I forgot to answer one LOL-
Anyways , back to Micro! LOL
I think I messed up my unknown!!!!! Why? because I did not see clear colonies in my Macconkey Agar plate. I know it is Gram - but to be sure, I did both test; the lactose fermenter and non- lactose fermenter! More work for me:uhoh21: NOW! I'm so worry...I'm so no good with technical stuff! My report is due Tuesday and I will find out results then.
Anyone had a similar experience? Please share:lol2:
Rachel, by the way ..how was your test on Saturday? I haven't heard from you!!!!!!
Hey everyone! I haven't been around in a while. I'm sure everyone is excited about the end of the school year coming soon..... I was sooooooo down when my micro test went really bad after so much studying (65) and then my lab partner and I did our presentation on Ebola and my teacher went to sleep :imbar She is coming off a really nasty bout with encephalitis but I was still surprised (and the presentation was good too!) Anyhooo I'm back in the saddle and smiles a'blazin :rckn:
