  1. We receive $1.00 an hour added to our base pay, classified as skill pay. When we clock in for a case, we are paid time and a half. Hope this helps!!!!
  2. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their ER hospital triage policy. I'm working on writing one and would like to review other suggestions. Thanks so much for your help!!!!!

There are no prep courses in my area until after my test date. I've been studying for months but have terrible test anxiety.

Ok....taking the CEN very soon. Any last minute study tips would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks so much!
  5. Dear OP.... Consider Emergency Nursing.
  6. I've used OFIRMEV in our ER. It works great when the patient has a high temp, with vomiting and diarrhea. The IVPB decreased their fever and the PT was overall in a better state.
  7. Ok...please is this a terrible question. Is Emergency Nursing a narcissistic field or just a field with Alpha type personalities? I'm a new grad!! I admit that....yes! I'm learning and I'm not stupid. My patients seem to respond to me very well but it is hard to fit in. The department I work in is FULL of individuals with 2 years or less experiened nurses....and we are understaffed. Some individuals are "super-nurses" and want to do all of the more difficult things .... That is Great!!! Until we are so busy they can't attend to it all!! I had a problem today and kept asking and asking for help.....it didn't come in time. The person will live, but may have to live with a slight problem because I didn't receive the help I kept asking for over, and over again! Of course, I received "dirty looks" and whispers ....Grrrrr frustrates me so much!!! Just a thought-filled question for the masses....thanks for any thoughts!! :icon_roll
  8. I took my NCLEX-RN exam today....had 75 questions. I went to the Pearson site and received the pop-up...does this always mean passed? Ohhhh I need to relax sooo badly..!! Thanks soo much for any responses :uhoh21:
  9. Congrats!!! I work as an ER Tech and will graduate from nursing school in December (hoping to continue in the same ER as an RN).....I have to echo about the feet hurting Do not go to the ER with your feelings on your sleeve....Be confident but ready to ask questions and constantly listening!!! They don't want to hear how much you know and will waste little time and telling you so! Always remember the patients are first....and learn to deal with each and every type. You will be faced with many personalities (I'm talking about patients and co-workers) but SAFE patient care is your bottom line. You will have some amazing opportunities and, yes, you will be there for the end of some lives. I had a gentleman come into our ER at 0840 and expired by 1125. It was unexpected for his wife but I did my best to help the RN, who was taking care of him, and comfort his wife (to the best of my ability.) Approximately 20 minutes prior to the man's death I rubbed his forehead (he was on a vent) and assured him he was not alone. You will do great and be ready to learn many many things!
  10. I'm starting my 4th and FINAL semester of NS in August and want to be an ER/Trauma nurse. I feel very lucky to be working as an ER tech right now (was hired after my second semester of NS) and the unit director says I'll be hired as an RN after I graduate in December! :bowingpur So employed is also a HUGE plus as well!! Great luck to all those beginning in August and all those continuing as well!!!
  11. Just wanted to wish those finishing semesters and those looking to their first nursing semester this fall at WKCTC .....Best Wishes and positive vibes for great success!! To your great future!! I'm beginning my 4th and LAST semester this fall.....let the madness come to a close. :w00t:
  12. I feel for you!!! I posted a thread about a CI and didn't get many responses...so glad you got some replies!! Mine CI disappears and when she is there doesn't know what she is doing! Now I find out she has been moved to my fourth semester...I'm in second...I'm gonna have to go through this again! And yes.....I'm very afraid of being penalized for saying anything. Another student has been for disagreeing about something in class... This instructor gave our class the wrong information for an exam and had to give us points for the last exam...I'm totally freaked! So I feel your pain!!! I'm so down about the situation.... :banghead:
  13. I really need some guidance.... I have an instructor that is confusing! I'm not being difficult on this person....just honest. They bring notes to class, pass them out, read over them (some) and then tell us to take them home and that we are responsible for the content. The HUGE problem....The clinical area!! This person is not a complete instructor in the clinical setting. They will not let students do many procedures on patients...they leave their students alone with their assigned patients (by alone I mean disappear)... Meds are ALWAYS given late.... If this person is unsure about an IV med their statement is (I'll ask the nurse...this person IS a nurse...) The person doesn't know how to work the computer system in the hospital (btw they work in this hospital...) One student was waiting to go into a procedure area and a nurse pointed to this instructor and told the student "That is one nurse you do NOT want to be like." ...the student said.."Do you know that is my instructor??" The nurse responded..."Yes..that is why I am telling you that!" Now......I find out this instructor has been transferred to my final semester of school! So I have to go through this AGAIN! Unfortunately, I cannot go to anyone because we are in a school that it tends to be the "ole girls club"....and I'm afraid of what will happen!! Every student that is with this instructor is very upset and the previous students have been treated the same way!! I just don't get it... I've sorta "sweetened" my post because people from my class read this website and would recognize this scenario. Am I right......I'm just toast in this situation? Thanks for your time!! :banghead::banghead:
  14. There's some excellent free study materials!! Good luck on the job hunt :stdnrsrck:
  15. I have a question?? When you "debind" and put the sections in different binders do you take them to class with you? I know, with our instructors, we have had assignments but have arrived in class and been referred to other chapters during discussions.... Just curious....I'm trying to understand this concept and the positive options :wink2: Thanks ya'll ....... :stdnrsrck:
