F/T nursing school/program & NO work
I guess I am one of the incredibly lucky ones. I was supposed to get a scholarship from the hospital where I work, which not only would have paid for the tuition and books for school, but also allow me to work only part-time and still be paid for full-time and retain my benefits and I only had to agree to work for them for the next three years following graduation. However, the Foundation ran out of money (not as many donations as in previous years past), so the whole thing, I thought, was about to go up in smoke. My BF, God-Bless-Him, stepped in and is not only going to pay the nursing school expenses, but all of my other expenses as well. He knows it's an investment in our future, and he offered, I didn't even have to ask. This is the same man who cooks and does dishes on nights when I had class when I was doing my prereqs! Yep, he's a keeper!

Been accepted for Fall 2009? Shout your good news here!
I had posted that I got myletter of conditional acceptance - did my interview, drug test, physical and background check - Friday I got the letter to let me know I really am in there and we have an orientation June 1st. First day of classes is August 31st! I have time for one more trip to Sturgis! Yee haw!

how are you and will you pay for school?
I got really lucky; I have worked here at the same hospital for 12 years now - 4 years ago, they offered the program where you work for 20 hours and get paid for 40 while you're going to school. They pay for your expenses and you agree to work for them for 3 years after you get your RN, which is fine, because after 12 years, I'm not planning on going anywhere else. They reimbursed my tuition and books while I was doing my prereqs and my boss has been a wonderful person through it all. I owe a lot to this place, couldn't have done it otherwise.

Ok I am trying to keep tabs, all starting this fall say I
I got my conditional letter of acceptance last Thursday, the 16th; I've initiated my criminal background check and I'm going for my drug test this afternoon. I'm so proud to have made it in there to start August 31st! I'm also loving it that I'll be able to make to the bike rally one more time in Sturgis before we start classes! Yeehaw!

Microbiology - Fall 2008
I have a questrion - if a patient's acid-fast stain from sputum is positive, but there is no mention of a 7H12 Middlebrooks media, and his PPD is negative, is this enough information to confirm that the patient has pneumonia and not TB?

Microbiology - Fall 2008
I had my practical last night and I think it went pretty well, although I won't get my grade backuntil Monday night. I went up before the class started to get some more microscope time, and boy, was I glad I did! We had taken some photos of the slides through the occular, but they look totally different. So a lot of the people who relied just on the photos they took and didn't take advantage of the opportunity to go up and have another look before class were really bummed out. I choked a little on a couple of math questions, but overall, I felt really good about it!

Microbiology - Fall 2008
I got my resuts back on my first lecture exam last night and was a little disappointed that I got an 85. I did great on the discussion questions, but he got me on the chemistry questions, which has always been my weak point! Anyway, now I know how he tests, what he looks for, and so the next one will be better. We have our first lab practical tomorrow night and he reviewed for it last night and he's going to have the lab open today at noon for an hour and tomorrow afternoon until 5, so I think that will help. We've already grown one culture, which was really interesting. How is everybody else doing?

Any advice for the HESI A2 test?
I was really glad to find this thread - after finishing up all my prereqs I checked in with my counselor at the college to make sure all my ducks were in a row so that I could apply and she hands me this sheet describing the HESI A2 that our college has just now started. I was flabbergasted. I did buy the study guide, but I'm already freaking out, worrying about the Chemistry and the Biology. It just irks me that after all this work, I now have to worry about whether or not I can get in hinging on this test! I have a 3.22 GPA, and have taken all my prerequisite courses! Anyway, a couple of questions I have: if you don't pass it, can you try again, and what's the details on that? and also, besides the study guide, I see where there are additional study guides and flashcards for the HESI, has anyone tried those? :smackingf

Andrea Yates R.N.
In readng the newspaper today, there was a news item where her mother -in-law was aware of some of the stuff going on - she asked her why she had run the tub full of water and she replied, "In case I need it." My question is why none of these people are being charged as accessories. They had to know, all of them, that something could happen to those kids.

For the eyes of the "older" pre-nursing students only!
Hey, Dry and Faerie, I live in Texas and I , too, remember the daylight savings time occurring in the winter time. It didn't seem like it lasted too long, but it was pain for us to go to school in the dark!
