My adult children have been sending me links about the new First Dogs. It reminded of this prose poem that I first saw on facebook, and now find out that it is by Bruce Springsteen:

“There’s no art in this White House. There’s no literature, no poetry, no music. There are no pets in this White House. No loyal man’s best friend, no Socks the family cat, no kids’ science fairs. No time when the president takes off his blue suit, red tie uniform and becomes human. Except when he puts on his white shirt and khaki pants uniform, and hides from the American people to play golf. There are no images of the first family enjoying themselves together in a moment of relaxation. No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii moments or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport. No Reagans on horseback. No Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape. Where’d that country go? Where did all the fun, the joy, and the expression of love and happiness go? We used to be the country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity. We used to have a president who calmed and soothed the nation instead of dividing it. On November 3rd, vote them out.”

I know that there are many who oppose this new President, but we have missed so much in these last 4 hate-filled years.

Apparently they have the honor of being the first First Dogs that are rescues.  Not sure about that.  

But yeah, it's going to be nice to see some warmth back in the chilly White House.

Very fine looking dogs, however, I would also like to see a First Chihuahua.

German Shepherds are already popular dogs in our country.  I wonder if they will now me more popular with our 46th President?  Also, I wonder if we will see adopted dogs become more popular too?

President  FDR received  as a Christmas present from his cousin in 1940, a small Scottish Terrier he named Murray the Outlaw of Falahill, shortened to Fala.

The dog went everywhere with him, meeting many Presidents, Prime Ministers and was on military ships. He once escaped from the White House, and was always in the news.

My dog-loving Paternal Grandfather was a tool and die maker. He told me several times over the years, he'd made a collar for Fala and sent it to the White House.  After my father passed, going through paperwork, found a letter from the White House thanking him for the collar.... found it's picture at Wikipedia!  So I have a tender heart for WH dogs.

Biden's doctor says he has hairline fractures in his foot after slipping while playing with his dog

President-elect Biden will wear a a walking boot for several weeks. Expect it to be healed by 1/20/21 inauguration.
